Exclamation Need Advice

Hey! I need some advice...I have had PCOS for about a year now and my hair just keeps getting thinner and thinner. It falls out a lot and I am scared that I won't have any hair left...I am only 19 and I am not sure I will have much hair left at 25. Is there any special shampoo that you can use to help treat the hair loss or at least make it appear to be thicker than it is? I could really use some help--I don't see my endo for enough 3 weeks but I wanted to start doing something now to maybe help it get better. If you have any tips they would be greatly appreciated!

Some cysters have good luck with Nizoral helping that somewhat, but definitely see your Dr. and have your hormones tested, so he can figure out the best way to treat you and your symptoms.

You NEED to go see an endo NOW ...dont do what I did and ignore it I had heavy shedding from the age of 15 and I am now 32 and I HAVE to wear extensions and I am also looking into wigs. ..Nizoral can help but again you HAVE to treat the cause from the inside ....

PCOS causes excess androgens ...its very common for PCOS women to suffer with what I have which you can look up called androgen genetic alopecia (female AND male pattern) I have receeding hairline, balding temples and constantly picking hairs off my clothes .. I ahve tried ALL treatments to no avail but I was told its best to start these earlier (ie as SOON as you notice a problem) ...you will need an anti androgen ie sprio, flutamide, propecia along wiht the pill ..I STRONGLY recoomend you see a doctor adn dont let them poo poo you ...I suffered so badly with this I have even considered suicide ...I have resigned to wearing wigs for the rest of my life and its RUINED my life .. DO Not just rely on shampoos I dont care what others say on here who have had success with JUST a shampoo my endo said that PCOS hair loss can and will lead to baldness IF NOT TREATED propaply. if I can save ONE person from teh hell I have been through over the last two years I will die a happy person ... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get this looked at before you end up like me .....

Hi!

I second ScaredSally ~ Get thee to an ENDO!!

Last year my hair started falling out and i ignored it (i was scared it would be something horrible and didn't want to go to the doc's) by the time i did go it was almost too late...

However ~ they tested my IRON and it was found that i was anemic and that's why my hair had been falling out. I'm already on androgen meds and that helps with the hair (and acne) as well.

But honey, please don't be scared!! Just go to the doc's and tell them you want to go to an endo bec of your hair falling out. And if you don't like what they tell you ~ GO TO ANOTHER DOC. I had to get 3 different dx before they found out my Iron was low (1st doc ignored it, 2nd told me they could do nothing and i would go bald and the 3 immediately tested my iron). I now take iron supps each morning and THAT's IT! My hair is also growing back (not as thick but at least they're there!)

Hang in there GIRL!!!

Hiya

I really sympathise! I'm 27, and my hair started falling out a couple of years ago when I switched from the Dianette oral contraceptive to Microgynon. It was only then, when my hair started falling out, that it occurred to my GP that I might have PCOS, and I was diagnosed late last year. I'm back on Dianette now (the only pill available in the UK that is an anti-androgen), and my hair has stopped falling out, which is a relief, but it's remained really thin on the top part of my scalp. I started using Andrew Collinge thickening lotion a few weeks ago, and it improves the appearance enough to at least let me leave the house without feeling self-conscious. Obviously, it's only cosmetic (it coats your hair with a silicon-type substance, I believe, which makes the strands of hair sit slightly apart from one another, creating the illusion of volume and thicker hair). Some sort of thickening lotion might make you feel better in the weeks leading up to your appointment. But I agree with everyone else who's replied to you - don't be fobbed off! Some doctors (usually male) seem to have no understanding of the devastating impact hair loss has on women of any age, but especially younger women. You deserve someone sympathetic who takes you seriously.

Hi there fellow Londern !!

With regards to Microgynon I was told to come off it as it has the opposite to an anti androgen in it !! .... I was on Dianette too but my blood pressure sored. .. I am now on Yasmin which does have an anit androgen in it known as Spirolactone .. but I HATE yasmin !

Agreed I saw six doctors, two endos, a derm and a gynacologist NONE except the last endo took me seriously
