I've been struggling with thinning hair since I was a teenager. I was recently diagnoised with PCOS. Since then, I've become painfully aware of how thin my hair is in front and on top. I'm scared that I am going to go bald. I have been using Nisim shampoo and conditioner, which is supposed to control excessive hair loss. Sometimes it seems to work but some days I still pull huge amounts of hair out of the drain after I shower. I take Biotin and a multivitamin daily. My doctor says my hormone levels are within normal ranges. I'm trying to get my blood pressue under control so I can get on birth control, which my doctor says will help with the some of the symptoms I've been dealing with. Anyone have any suggestions to help stop my hair from falling out? I know this question has been posted several times. I see there are hair vitimans and herbs out there that are helpful to some. Have any of those worked for you guys? I'd like to regrow some of the hair I lost and keep what I have. I just don't want to be bald at age 26. The balding is destroying what is left of my self-confidence.
[font=Comic Sans MS]I know how terribly frustrating this is. I am quite a bit older than you (47) and have experienced my hair thinning for about 10 -15 years. This has been a very slow process which I noticed but did not panic about until the last couple years when I started seeing my scalp in the mirror and it would get sunburned in the summer. My loss is along my part on the top of my head. I went to a dermatologist who put me on spironolactone. I also take a vitamin formulated for Hair, Skin and Nails (that is actually the name on the box). It is high in biotin and other B vitamins. I use Nizoral shampoo, an over the counter dandruff shampoo and apply women's Rogaine twice a day. I started all of these about the same time so I don't know if its one or the other or a combination but I do think my loss has slowed down. I don't know that I have had any regrowth but my dermo says that loss slowing down comes long before any regrowth would occur - if it would occur at all. I have sympathy as this is happening so early for you. I dealt with excess hair when I was your age and was getting that under control when I started losing my scalp hair! This syndrome is awful isn't it. Find a doctor who is sympathetic and knowledgable (this can take persistence) but is worth it. There are also some good web sites about hair loss you can surf around and find. I know some have links here on soulcysters. My hormone levels also test in the normal range. Good luck.
I have always suffered with thin hair too I recently started useing nexon but I hear it takes awhile before u see any difference my sister used it and it worked pretty good for her so I hope it does the same for me

Hi Honey, Unfortunately with most women with PCOS, androgen levels are elevated they convert into DHT and that creates Hair Loss..
The information I'm about to give you will STOP the hair loss that your having now and may grow some hair back (if hair folicles aren't dead already) and will make existing hair thicker
I know exactly how you feel, I started to loose my hair at 17, I was diangosed till this year at 22 when most of my hair is gone.. It's ruined my life everday I wish I could go back in time and have followed this
Yes it's strict but in order to get back control of your hair you NEED to follow this
First part Getting rid of excess androgens
What to use on your hair and what not
Try looking up Apivita it's a company in Greece, Order Women's Tonic Hair Loss shampoo -- all natural ingredients including rosemary which stimulates hair growth and regulates sebum levels
Next this is a MUST- Emu Oil is a DHT blocker, put this on your hair rub in circular motions to remove excess DHT and control it
NO BIRTH CONTROL PILLS.. I posted a thread on why their bad for blood sugar levels.. go under my profile and look it up.. I'm going to give you natural alternatives
These are the supplements I take that have helped me get in control of my hormones:
Women's Toner Tea - contains Licorice Root and Spearmint to lower androgens that are causing Hair Loss
Women's Liberty Tea - balances Hormones - very important also contains Spearmint and Licorice to lower androgens
Moniter your androgens and see how much lower there getting -- if you need more take Spearmint Tea
Liquid Amino Acids - Protien to strengtheh Hair
Maca Root - Balances Hormones i.e. excess testrone lowers - estrogen raised (estrogen can also make hair thicker)
Sage - raises protes. and estrogen levels and regualtes blood sugar levels
Also work out it circulates blood in head and scalp
Healthy Hair Diet / PCOS DIET - will help with all symptons and regulates blood sugar -- Diet is a big factor
Monday - Friday
Breakfast: Organic Whole Milk / High Fiber Cereal / Shredded Almonds
Hello Goddess Hectate Help,
I really enjoyed your message regarding your hair loss treatment. If you don't mind me asking you, how did you come up this treatment? And more importantly, how long have you been doing it and how is it working for you?
Best wishes,
Laura

Well thank you Laura! When I was 17 my hair began thinning.. I went to many doctors but at the time no one was able to properly diagnose me. After a few years of trying to figure out what was wrong I gave up and figured I was going to be a bald 21 year old girl, but decided one last time to see a dietician to see if there was a way to fix this issue with diet.. since no medication had worked. She had me see an endo to get my hormones tested.. and my androgens were elevated which was causing the hair loss.. I had tried aldactone before with no results (although I was only on it for a few months) and wanted to try a natural way to fix my hair issues.. She devised this diet for me.. It contains plenty of vitamins and amino acids that help stimulate hair growth and make hair stronger.. I tried it for one month w/o any supplements and just multi -vitamins.. It worked! My hair loss completely stopped.. it didn't grow normally like it used to unfortnately but there were no strands falling out and it stopped thinning out. I added supplements to help balance my hormone levels and they also made a big difference but not as much as the diet..
I've been of and on the diet bc of some other issues.. but I noticed a difference in my hair in just ONE month when it stopped thinning out..
Goddess Hecate Help, thanks for your post listing all the things you tried. Great info!
I'm currently drinking Spearmint Tea, but would like to try other teas for variety. Also, I gave up on Emu Oil, but I think I'll try it again. It's just that it smells like chicken fat - but on my head but if it stops hair loss, it's worth it!
