My sugar has been high for the past several months...and my doc. wants me to go on Metformin. Iv asked for a month to regulate on my own. Iv joined a gym, and am planning to eat better. Any advice will be appreciated...........oh im also taking chromium GTF....200-400.
something that works wonders for high sugar levels is eating lots of vegetables! its the only thing that got my levels down to the normal range. I find green veggies the best
Metformin has allowed me to decrease my medication by alot, so maybe you should give it a try.
If your glucose levels are consistently high, you need to do whatever is necessary to bring them down. Long term damage and risk of long term complications is a real threat.
Take the medication, get the glucose under control, make the healthy lifestyle changes, and you will probably be able to back down off of the medication in time.
But, the most important thing to do is get that blood sugar under control, because the high sugar levels of today are causing the damage and complications of tomorrow.
Just because you start with medication, does not necessarily mean you will always be on it or eventually wind up on insulin. Don't be afraid of the medication, be afraid of the potential consequences of letting the glucose levels remain high.

Hi Fayth,
Are you taking any medication to start your periods? I have discovered that taking Prometrium raises my blood sugar levels.
I understand wanting to try to control your sugars on your own, but even if you do start on Glucophage it doesn't mean you will have to stay on it forever. Once you get your levels in better control you may be able to control them with diet and exercise alone! Hang in there!!!
