hi there, dh and i are having a party at our house in september. and just to make sure that him and i can enjoy the party as well, i am making finger foods that can be made the day before and just put out the day of the party so we are not too busy cooking to enjoy everyone's company. problem is, dh had unexpected shortage of hours at work, putting us ona very tight budget. i did ask a couple people to bring a few things to help out but any suggestions for a few things that are not too expensive to make would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

400g Monterey Jack cheese (shredded) *
1 block cream cheese
1 cup salsa
10 large flour tacos (plain, whole wheat or flavoured)
1. Whip the cream cheese till soft.
2. Add salsa. Beat some more till blended.
3. Add MJ cheese. Mix until well blended.
4. Spread thinly onto soft tacos and wrap tightly.
5. Refridgerate wrapped/uncut tacos in plastic bag for a few hours or overnight.
6. Slice into 1" pieces. The ends of the rolls will not be useful.
7. Place sliced side down on cookie sheet.
8. Bake 5-10 minutes at 350 degrees until cheese melts slightly.
9. ENJOY!!!
*that's just under half a pound, I believe. You could use cheddar or even fontina, but MJ is pretty inexpensive and melts well.

Well if you know how to make egg sandwiches, do that and cut them up into fourths. You can also do that with tuna sandwhices . They were a hit at the last party I had. Also cut up fruit and veggies are always popular. Hope this helps!

This is a homemade "Chex mix" I make. It has some unconventional items & no Chex b/c DH has food allergies - you can sub ingredients like several flavors of real Chex, mixed nuts, etc to your taste as long as the total cup amount is the same. It is pretty cheap to make & is a good snacking food...

Homemade "Chex" Mix
4 c Crispix cereal
1 c Cheerios
2 c grided(or any style) Pretzels
2 c Quaker Oatmeal Squares cereal
1 c plain bagel chips, broken into small pieces
Heat oven to 250 degrees. Combine all ingredients in a 9x13" pan. In seperate bowl, combine:
Stir together & drizzle over cereal mix until evenly coated. Bake 1 hr or until mix appears dry, stirring every 15 min.

It is a nice thing to make while you are cleaning, getting ready in the morning, etc. The prep time is really short & you can just set a timer every 15 min so you can stir it around. It is really yummy!

Use flour tortillas, the big burrito ones are the cheapest because you get the most pinwheels out of it. Take the tortillas, spread them with a small amount of cream cheese, then layer ham or turkey on them. (use just ham on some and just turkey on some...mix them if ya want! )
Then, roll the tortillas up and cut into one inch pieces. The cream cheese will keep them from falling apart.
We love to eat these all the time. You can even get the fat free tortillas, cream cheeses, and meats!
Combine cheese and butter in a bowl. Mix thoroughly. Sift together flour, salt, and peppers. Add to cheese mixture. Mix well. Add the rice krispies. Mix lightly.
Roll into marble size balls. Press lightly to flatten. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Do not brown.
Yield 100

Shorty, you are party queen, I swear... lil smokies are always popular, and are crockpot-friendly, and I know you looove that crockpot!
Get a couple packages of the little sausages, I use the generic store version, a slightly smaller than average size bottle of mustard, and a average sized jar of grape jelly, the cheaper the better. dump it all in the crock and let it stew on low for like, 4 hours, and mmmm those are the BEST lil smokies EVER!
