vivcrayton: I used to use the Surgicream, but found that after about a year or so it stopped lasting more then a week.

Previous to the Surgicream I used Nude-it, which did the same thing--after a while it just stopped working.

I've found a lot of success with the Finishing Touch razor I mentioned. To me, its a lot less painful then waxing.

    Default question?

Is your Finishing Touch razor the same as the thing on the TV commercials? I've been tempted to try it, but it sounds too good to be true.

Everyone's milage may vary of course but... I used a Braun silk epil on my chin (very similar to the Emjoi) and it made my problem SOOOOOO much worse...

I finally took to shaving and had much better results.

I would wash my face every AM with Aveeno foaming cleanser with salycillic acid... then I would shave DRY... then I would apply aveeno lotion with salycillic acid... then at night I would use J&J clean & clear blackhead fighting acne pads...

This regimine took care of both the hair and the infected/bumpy follicles... I felt a lot more confident with this method than with plucking. When I plucked, or used the silk epil, it seemed you could either always tell if you got close enough (tweezing) or I would have nice skin for 1-2 days after a week of letting it grow in enough to remove (silk epil).

I will NEVER go back to plucking my face. I spent years denying that my problem was bad enough to shave, but once I accepted that plucking wasn't working, I felt I had the problem mu8ch more controlled.

Also, how much pain are we talking here? Is it just like waxing without the mess or is it really awful? Are there ever red marks where it tweezes or is it fairly gentle? Is it loud? (Not that that really matters, just curious.)

That's all from me, sounds like this litte gadget could be just what I'm looking for! Thanks in advance for your time!

    Default Nair.

I use Nair facial strips. They are fast and relatively painless.

i've thought about doing laser. a few years ago i even went to a clinic for a consultation. when i asked the doctor there about its success given that i have pcos and the hormonal imbalance that goes with it, he said i need to get that "taken care of".

does anyone know if laser works when your hormones are out of wack? i figure it probably helps a bit but then will eventually come back. i think i remember asking my family doctor and she said not to bother.

i have tried many things, know i do a combo of home waxing and the braun epil silk. not bad, not great though.

Anyone know if the laser will work even though the hormonal balance exists?

    thanks

    Default Vaniqa

KT - I dont know why your doctor doesnt recommend Vaniqa. I'm sure results vary but I've been using it for a year and I LOVE it. One tube lasts me almost 3 months. Before the Vaniqa, I was on BCPs which helped with the hair to SOME degree, but once I went on the Vaniqa, my sideburns DISAPPEARED. It was literally amazing. And when I went off BCPs for a few months, the sideburns did NOT come back! I just kept using Vaniqa. It has also controlled the hair on my neck, not as well as the sideburns, but to my satisfaction. The combination of BCPs and Vaniqa has made me look much more like a girl, and much less hairy! It is expensive, and you have to use it twice a day as presribed for a couple of months before it starts to kick in, but once it does, there can be a huge difference - at least for me there was!

    Default Vaniqa

I've been using it since early December, and there's definitely a difference. I could probably cut back to one plucking a day, but I'm still paranoid (oh, those years of hiding my face!).

    Default Laser and hormone problems

I don't think it will work if your hormones are out of whack. The reason I say this is because I did electrolysis for a year and a half with NO results. Even the electrologist told me I needed to see an endocrinologist - she even told me Spironlactone had worked for some of her other patients.

When I did electrolysis, the hair started growing back the very next day, and within a few days it was as bad as before the electrolysis. So maybe with laser the results might last a little longer, but there will probably be no "permanent" results.

Also, I asked my gynecological endocrinologist and she told me that getting electrolysis or laser with your hormones out of balance is like "chasing your tail". So I'd say, try to get to the root of the problem (PCOS and hormone inbalances) rather than trying to fix just one symptom (the excess hair). I hope this helps. Don't get discouraged - you can find normalcy. I am on the same path as you right now.

Hey there.. I use finishing touch, the one on tv, but I bought it at walmart..its good but not great. Basically its like tiny tiny scissor blades, its not quite as close as a razor, but its pretty close, but theres no way you can cut your skin with it, and you use it dry. It has no blades sticking out.. even if you get another hair removal I'd use it to touch up. I wouldn't ever want to shave my face. I did the needle free electrolysis.. it didn't work, and I spent a lot of money.. at one time I went to a dermatologist laser place and they said it wouldnt work on me because my facial hair is white/blonde. But now they have lasers that work on all hair colors,..but you'd have to be in a big city, and I don'thave enough money right now but ONE day I will. I've done waxing--it takes my skin off, almost scarred me one. Dipilatories don't work all the way and burn my skin off.. and I don't want to tweeze because it'd be irritating and bleed and hurt and my skin is super sensitive. So basically I'm going to do the finishing touch a couple times a week like I've been doing til I can get laser..which will at LEAST be another year ..or maybe two. But anyway, finishing touch is also really good for those side burns and baby fine hairs on the cheek and neck, besides the mustache and beard.. its good for the eyebrows.. but watch out, it will cut hair off FAST I once lopped a big hole in one of my eyebrows, haha.

for years i waxed everything but i recently had to start shaving because i just got lazer done and youre not allowed to wax for like 6 weeks before you start. im 2 weeks into it and i have alot more bumps that look like acne around my neck/chin but some hairs are starting to slip out as i pull at them. i really hope i wont have to worry about hair as much after this whole ordeal.

it's wierd because i really feel like i'm alone in the too much hair thing and then theres tons of you out there going through it too and we can talk about it freely, its great! (the board not that we all have to deal with it hehe)

I have done electrolysis for over a year and a half. The first 12-14 months, it was like "chasing my tail", but there were some minor improvements (the upper lip for some reason responds exceptionally well to electrolysis). BUT since I started taking MET in mid-October the changes have been quite dramatic!! I'm thrilled!! I had lots of thick dark hair on my chin and under it and now it is reduced to probably about 25-30 hairs that I get done weekly and they are growing back VERY slowly.

So I agree, if your hormones aren't under control- you are just wasting time and money for the most part (boy~ think about how much money I wasted!)

I dunno, I just think electrolysis is whats not good.. I didn't like it much.. I dunno I've heard a lot of ppl really love laser. If you have plenty of money to spend on it (not like your last dollar or anything definitely) you shoul dgo for it.. yeah, if your hormones keep raising it'll activate more hairs and youll have to get htem treated again but each time you get a treatment it'll permaently kill all the ones there and it'll get better and bettre even if it doesn't work the first few times..and a lot of ya'll are on medicines to help control hormones, so if you start treatments for PCOS at teh same time, I think laser can be really worth it.. but I don't know, as I've never done it. But one day I definitely will..

    Cool Hair Removal

I found out from some cyster a few months ago that i should try Salley Henson Creme Hair Removal. This is for facial. It really works. I find that it works better then shaving. I have problems with getting ingrown hair when i use a razor. Another thing that I have found that can help with a quick fix is DH's mustache trimmer. That helps be to quickly get rid of the hair if I notice some and I'm in a hurry. I hope that this Helps. You can Find the Salley Henson remover at Wal-Mart

For a long time, I used Nair on my upper lip, chin, and sideburns, but it stopped working well and my skin started to really break out from it.

Now, I tweeze my chin and use Nads to wax my lip and sideburns. I think it works really well and it's easy to clean up. I do it about every 3 weeks.
