I need a good doctor to help with my PCOS. I'm only 5'1 and 206lbs (i know right!!) My doctor (pcp) just set me up on Metformin 500mg 1x daily and thats it. Then says "I will see you in 3 mths"....Um...ok.. I just dont feel that she knows all that she can with PCOS. She diagnosed it but dosent know anything about it. Just that Meformin helps. I live in NJ (central) and was wondering if anyone had a great doctor in mind?? Thanks!!

I'm from South Jersey and I go to Penn University PCOS clinic in Philly, only been there once tho but so far it seems nice. There is a post somewhere around here about abbreviations and such.
RE: Reproductive Endo (Deals with infertility issues and SOME can just help you with the PCOS) I see a reproductive endo even tho I am not TTC.
TTC: Trying to conceive - trying to get pregnant
Good luck in your journey. If you ever wanna chat my AIM is MutableParadox Nice to see another jersey girl.

I've got some great recommendations if you're looking for either an OB/GYN or Reproductive Endocrinologist - the RE is the one that diagnosed me and has really made a huge difference.

The previous posters answered your questions, I went to RMA (Reproductive Medicine Assoiates ) DR. Fratterelli, amazing dr...made you feel like a person and not another woman with PCOS! They helped so much, I have my son because of them!!! Their offices are in Somerset near Easton Ave.

Thanks soooo much I will have to check them out and btw CONGRATULATIONS on your son Christopher Alexander!!! Being diagnosed with PCOS I thought it was almost impossible to have children but seeing all the support here really changed my mind. Although right now I am not TTC. Best of luck with your son
Kelly,
Thanks for the abbreviations class LOL. Now I understand more heh. I will add your name to AIM also. My name is funkypetals there. I'm not sure what type of doctor is best since I am not TTC. I was diagnosed by my PCP. I had an ultra sound and found out I have cysts on both sides. My PCP knows of PCOS but thats it. Just put me on metformin 500mg 1x daily. Hopefully we will catch up online.
Gwen,
Thanks for the reply and If you have a great doctor in NJ/PA/NY I don't mind traveling if its for a great doctor who understands better then my PCP. So those pictures of horses are they all yours?? I'm in love with horses! have been since I was a little girl. Only thing is I collect the fake ones LOL.

I highly recommend Dr. Caryn Borger at The Endocrine Center. Her website is www.drborger.com and she was absolutely instrumental in getting my PCOS diagnosed and on the track to treatment. She knew what to ask, what to test, and how to treat it when the bloodwork came back - someone mentioned on another thread that a common theme with a lot of us is that we've run into trouble getting diagnosed by other doctors, and Dr. Borger was my answer to that. I'd recommend her to anyone!
Yes, those are all mine (or were mine at one point and have gone to new homes) except for the podgy pony in the second to last photo, who belongs to a friend. #2 is my current project, she's enormous (I'm 5'3" and standing straight up in that photo...)

Thanks Gwen! I appreciate it! I will def look her up then. And btw I am so jealous that you have horses! LOL my only luxury is looking at all my My little Ponies or going and paying $40 an hour to ride someplace. Best of luck and have fun with the horses!!

$40 an hour is pretty average here in NJ, but i've found if I stand still long enough the riding opportunities come along without having to pay for them - you just have to know where to look! There are plenty of places in short distance of where you are that are always looking for help in exchange for riding time; it just depends on how much of your time you're willing to give up. When i was a poor Rutgers student, that;s what I did!

Yep she's enormous and I haven't yet braved getting on her yet (she's being re-trained from the racetrack)! She's going to make a fabulous dressage horse someday, though.

My friend does that...she cleans stalls and such and then gets to ride for free. I really need to do that but I work full time and don't get out till 6pm so by that time Its all done for the day. I'm hoping soon I can start helping at the stables on weekends or something. Oh, I looked up that doctor and she is only 45mins from me. I'm going to call her and see if she can help me. Cause I think I need to see someone who is a specialist and not just a PCP. And Rutgers is right around the corner from me. LOL I live in New Brunswick

Aww she is a racehorse thats cute she is away from that lifestyle. Not really a fan of racing horses. Its kinda barbaric if you ask me. And I think your going to need a ladder to get on the back of that horse LOL

*sigh* Don't even get me started on the horrors of racing; let's just say that the gorgeous horsey face in that photo (and the one two photos over too, actually) would have long since been dog food if it weren't for a network of really great people who save the ones they can get to in time. Barbaric "industry". In fact there's a really good expose piece running on HBO on Monday night regarding the TB racing industry (the sadly very typical story of the Sugar Creek Six - six horses pulled from the killers pens hours before they were to be shipped to the slaughterhouse...horses that had won fairly substantial purses at the track for their owners and had raced as recently as one week before being sold to the 'meat man').
Gah. Horrid industry. I'd stop it if I could.
