I am trying to help myslef here and could use some basic help..

can anyone tell me what foods to avoid?
My mother says potatoes and bread
But what else is bad? What is REALLY good?
Should i avoid sugar all together? and One thing i am stumped with is.. WHAT to drink? I cant have aspertame so that leaves out diet sodas.. am i supposed to drink water only? i am such a sugar feen it isnt even funny. ALL i ever drink is soda and iced-T

I dont have money for fancy breads and stuff like that etc.
we have to buy what is on sale inorder to have enough food for the month so somethings i will just have to leave out.

There is no simple answer--it sounds as if you are asking about low carb diets...but there are a LOT of approaches out there that work.

Pop on over to the diet & exercise forum and you will see a "sticky" thread called "so you want to lose weight..."

As a rule of thumb, the carbs that are worst for you: sugar (regular soft drinks are one of the WORST THINGS you can do to your body--especially if you already insulin resistant.), most fruit juices, pasta, bread, things made with white flour, potatoes, corn, rice...

It is best to focus on getting your carbohydrate from non starchy veggies.

My advice--browse the other forum, pick a plan and do some reading.

It's not expensive to eat healthier and cut out bad carbs. A big bag of rolled oats is really cheap and will make many breakfasts. Add cinnamon, milk and an egg on the side and you've got a healthy, sugar free, cheap breakfast. Also those bulk soup mixes (like 10 bean for example) are really cheap and healthy.
