Need to find good doc in Miami!!! Just want to start out by saying what a help this website was for me. Trying to uncover what BCP's had been hiding for many year's has been such a relief. Im actually relieved that i know what's wrong with my body, not knowing was the most difficult.
My period started late @ 17 and was very irregular so the gyno immediately put my on BPC's (OrthroTriCyclen). For year's I looked and felt great. Then @ 22 I stopped taking BCP's curious about what would happen and that's when my nightmare began. I slowly but consistently started to gain weight, my once clear skin got worse and worse as the month's went by, and I had these horrible night sweats where i would wake up toatally drenched in sweat 2/3x a night. Emotionally i wasn't better off, and i sympathize and thank my hubbie Axel for putting up with all the mood swings, insecurites, and down days i've had up until today. A whole year went by after i got off my BCP's and i had still not received one period. I went to the my gen doc, he did some bloodwork and an ultrasound of my ovaries, said i was normal, and put me on the pill again. He told me I had to lose some weight and that after i have a baby things should normalize. Now i may be mistaken but if the only way i ovulate is when i'm on BCP's doesn't that make it just a little hard to get pregnant so i can have a baby so i can become normal.
After another year on the BCP Yasmin, my body never went back to normal, i continued to have all the same symptoms. I eventually got off it so that it wouldn't affect my test results to get another docs opinion. This time they finally found abnormalities. My blood work revealed a hormone imbalance with elevated test. and my CT revealed enarged ovaries but it didn't mention the presence of cysts.
Here's the problem, me knowing so much about this when i went today for my diagnosis i left feeling a little disappointed that my endo didn't give my much info on how we were going to approach this. He just prescribed to me Spiro (50mg) and Metformin (500mg) and said he'd see me in 3 months. when i asked him about BCP's in combo with these meds because i didn't want to get pregnant this year he said that was something i had to take up with my gyno. Isn't this all related?
I left feeling rushed and like the doc was so clinical. I was just another file.
Please let me know if anyone know's of a caring doc in Miami, FL that deals with PCOS on a regular basis. I definetely want a baby in the next year or two but just not yet. Would that change which treatment i should be recieving now?
Thanxs for listening!!!
