My Mood: Points: 501.20 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 501.20 | Need Good Dr in Louisiana for pcos-type care I have a dr. now which I don't care for at all but don't know who to switch to. He is unsympathetic and shrugs off complaints I've brought to his attention for years. I quit seeing him regularly years ago, but have had to start again because I just can't take it anymore. Besides most of the symptoms of PCOS (excess hair, dark patches, skin tags, irregular/heavy/long periods, etc.) I have also been having a LOT of problems with cyst formation. I currently have a 4.5 cm hemorrhagic cyst that he either wants me to take BC pills for or do laporascope procedure and possibly biopsy ovary, cyst and see if he needs to remove an ovary, both ovaries, or total hysterectomy) He wants me to decide what to do over the weekend - but I want a second opinion, as I have been taking Provera for anovulation and it seems to have made this cyst thing worse. Don't know what kind of dr. I need to help me sort out what exactly is wrong with me. A Dr friend heard my complaints and said to check out PCOS - I mentioned PCOS to my dr and he said what I have is very similiar, but even though my ovaries are enlarged and I keep getting cysts - they do not have the string-of-pearl look like polycystic ovaries do. Please help . . I don't know what to do and am about to just give up and do nothing. I would love to find a good dr to help me get to the root of the problem. Any info you could offer would be greatly appreciated. |

I've had one appointment so far with a nurse practitioner on the Northshore... Her name is Kelly Brewster and she is at the Center for Women's Health in Covington. She is very nice and seems very knowledgeable about PCOS. My first appt. didn't accomplish much because I needed some current blood tests, but she had a very detailed discussion with me about treatment options that might work for me. For instance, she talked a bit about what BC pills tend to work to regulate PCOS women's hormonal levels properly, and which ones usually don't. I'm headed back in very soon to review the blood tests and figure out what the treatment is going to be.
When I left that appointment I was so happy I was practically crying because unlike other health professionals I'd seen, she hadn't treated me like a freak but had really taken the time to explain what PCOS is and what the treatment options are.
I can't vouch for any results yet, since I only had the one appointment, but I was very encouraged by that first appointment and am hopeful my next appointment will go equally well. You may want to look into going to her if you can take the time/gas money to drive across the Causeway. It would probably be a 45-minute to 1 hour drive from Metairie -- it took me about an hour and I am in Kenner.
I hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.

My Mood: Points: 501.20 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 501.20 | Congrats on the Doctor find I hope that the dr works out for you. I got a referral from a friend for Dr. Goodridge in Metairie. My friend has not problems, but said the dr is very nice and she has referred lots of people to her. Had my 1st appt today. She seemed very nice, but my dr didn't send records like they were supposed to. She wants me to start Yaz and I think she will start testing from there. By the way, have you been diagnosed with PCOS? If you don't mind me asking. Just curious to compare symptoms and treatments, I guess. Hope I'm not being too personal. We'll have to keep each other up to date. Good Luck to the both of us!! Hope things work out for you. |

My Mood: Points: 515.71 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 515.71 | Hi! My Dr is Dr. Hill at Woman's and Children's in Lafayette. it is sort of a long story. A year ago I was going to a Nurse Practitioner in Mandeville, she brought up that I may have PCOS. I did some blood work but got scared and didn't go back. I know, It was dumb. Then just last week I decided I needed to go back so I found a Dr. here in Lafayette. So I have only been to Dr Hill twice. The second visit they did an ultrasound and took some blood and he told me "the ultrasound is concurrent with PCOS". Back to the original question. He was really nice but I do sort of feel like he was bummed with the diagnosis. He seems like one of those Dr. that really like babies. and when he found out I wasn't going to be having any babies soon he seemed a bit disinterested. But, that could be all in my head. =)
sorry for the long answer |

I'm originally from New Orleans but live in Mississippi. I used to see Dr. Pedroza and he was good but Dr. Clisham is even better. He has a practice strictly for fertility through Ochsner as well.
