Does anyone have any thoughts or advice around taking Metformin while pregnant?

YES!
Take it!!
My RE was so passionate about this (and I agree withhim) that he called me at 8pm on a Saturday night!
All the research I have seen shows it reduces the risk of miscarriage and the chances of gestational diabetes while pregnant. The real question is whether to take the Metformin for just the first trimester or the whole pregnancy. From the research I have seen, and I should probably try to find it again for you...I am going to push to take it the entire pregnancy...
if I find the links to the research, I will post them.

Hi Laura, congratulations if you are already pregnant :-)! I am taking Metformin, and when I'll be pregnant I will want to continue it for at least the first 12 weeks, but ideally the whole pregnancy. I just hope my doctor agrees...

I have read a lot about it and although there is no clear evidence for it, I read on many forums about women's experiences where they had to stop it as doctor would not prescribe it whilst pregnant, and then they had a miscarriage.

I guess it also depends on what your medical history is, but in my case, with already very low progesterone levels, I would not want to risk it. Maybe take a lower dosage though.

Good luck :-)

My Ob/gyn absolutely without a doubt wants me to take it the entire pregnancy when I get my BFP. He may reevaluate the dosage in the beginning of the third trimesters, but he sees no reason for me to disrupt taking it at all. He actually has all his pregnant patients who are PCOS and tolerate Met take it throughout the pregnancy, for both m/c and preventative of Gestational Diabetes, and all the complications that come from developing that.
HTH!

I was on 1,500mg when I got a BFP and am currently still taking 1,000mg. I'm glad my doctor is having me stay on it through the pregnancy.
