Unhappy need help - big decision

I am still bleeding a lot. I had a D&C last month and have had 3 periods in a month, 1 lasting for 10 days. I went to my dr and he told me about novasure, I guess it burns the lining of your uterus so that you don't get a lining and bleed. He said it will cause permanent infertility which, Brian and I don't want a child. Dr also said there's a shot that i can take 1month or 3 month shot and that does like a temp fake menopause that will help stop me bleeding. I can only take like once every 6 monthes. I was looking into the novasure because brian and I were thinking that's the best option since BCP and drugs are what's messed up my system. Well, I went to the website for novasure and it said you still have to use a form of birth control because you still can become pregnant and if you do then it's fatal for both mom and fetus. I'm so scared I don't know what to do. I am so sick of bleeding and feeling like crp that I want them to take everything out but I'm to young according to the moron drs. yah they told me at one dr I was to young to have PCOS but guess what. PLEASE any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Too young to have PCOS??? How the hell did they decide on how old you have to be in order to have PCOS??
I personally wouldn't know what to do in your situation. I will give you a bump so someone else can help...

I am not familiar with novasure, so I do not want to give you mis-guided advice. However, this is major decision, so please take your time and not rush into anything.

I hope someone has some experience with novsure that they can share with you. Good Luck!!!!

Hi there cyster,
I'm so sorry you're still bleeding. I feel so bad for you, I wish there was something I could do to help..

I haven't heard of the novasure, so I'm really no help there. I'm wondering what kind of shot they were talking about? I took the Depo shot every 3 months, and (just my opinion of course) I absolutely hated it. I didn't bleed at all while I was on it, but when I went off it, I bled like crazy. That's when my PCOS symptoms really started hitting me hard.

Is there another doc you could see, maybe get another opinion on the problem?

Sorry I'm no help with advice! I am here for you though, anytime you want to talk, please email me or pm me.
Hugs cyster

I haven't heard of Novsure either... But it definitely sounds like a huge life altering decision... I would definitely try to see a specialist and get a second opinion. Does your current doc specialize in PCOS?

I would definately seek another opinion or option, that treatment in my opinion sounds way too risky.

Did you get diagnosed with endometriosis too? I agree with others, you should get a second opinion on this. You might want to consider some alternative medicine too. For one if you are too young to get a hysterectomy then you are also too young for permanent sterility. You might change your mind about kids in ten years, you never know. It sounds nice when you are bleeding and hurting just to get it to stop, but this is a radical option. On the bright side of PCOS when it starts to get worse, you will have less periods to deal with. I remember bleeding the entire month of August when I was 18 and then wondering why I was so dizzy at work! Duh

Hi, im not familiar with the term Novsure, but it sounds similar to whats over here called a thermachoice or endometrial resection. I had one of those done last year. My situation is very similar to yours. They burn away the lining of the womb which is ment to either stop bleeding or at least reduce it. Yes you still need to use birth control. But what i was told was it may cause infertility but on the other hand if you still got all your bits an pieces anything is possible. My experience of having that op done was not good an im still having problems. But dont let that influence your choice. My advice would be talk to your partner an maybe both of you see your doctor or gyne, talk it through more an weigh up all your options. If there is another less drastic option instead of that one darling i suggest you take it an leave that op as a very last resort. Maybe give the shot a go, in my eyes the longer you can put off surgery the better it is for you! If i can help in any other way just give a shout! Good luck and i hope you feel better soon xxxxxx

I have never heard of novasure. I did not know there was an age limit on PCOS. I am worried my dd has it. She has some of the signs of it. She will be going to my OB/GYN for an ultrsound.

If it were me I would get a second opinion. I think there are several other opinions out there. I would not do anything permanant yet. I would see another dr.

It seems like there would be little point in having such a drastic procedure done if you have to use bc anyway. The procedure would put you at a lot of risk from the sounds of it, and you might still have to deal with the hassle of hormones etc to prevent pregnancy. Also, you're just attacking one SYMPTOM of the pcos, right? So you'd still be taking other meds or whatever to deal with all the other symptoms as well. The other thing is, assuming you're capable of having children presently, 25 is SO young to make such a permanent decision. You may be sure you don't want any now, but there's no way anyone can predict what your life or feelings will be in another 10 or 15 years. You have a lot of potentially fertile years left to continue evolving your postiiton on these things. Anyway...that's just my opinion. I'm sure you're really sufferring with all this bleeding and you're the only one who knows how much you can take and how much risk its worth to you to make it stop. Best of luck in this scary decision!!

Ugh, I know how awful continued bleeding is! You really do start to feel hopeless after a while. I'd also suggest going the conservative route--so many risks and drawbacks associated with the surgery you are considering without actually "curing" anything!

Have they tried you on Metformin? I know a lot of women have their cycles regulated on it, along with appropriate diet. I'm hoping for that myself.

You may also want to look into some herbs to encourage your body to stop bleeding. Tinctures of crapbark and sheperd's purse are both excellent. When I had bleeding issues, taking a dropperful of each in a small glass of water or juice twice a day helped slow it down.

Good luck & hugs to you!

I think the shot you are talking about that causes menopause is called lupron. That is what a former gynecologist recommended to me because I wouldn't stop bleeding. He didn't want to do a d&c because he felt i was too heavy and might die during surgery. I didn't take the lupron as it is very expensive and he couldn't recommend I would come out of menopause.

I haven't heard of Novasure so I can't really say about that. I hope you get some help soon. I know what its like to bleed for 8 months solid. It is horrible. It is not my place to tell you about not having children but please be careful about doing something drastic now. Just in case later you change your mind. I hope things get better for you.

Unhappy

I just wanted to say DO NOT go the depo-provera route. Bleeding or no, it made my & many other cysters' symptoms get a million times worse while on it. Fat, acne, mood swings to kill, hairloss, you name it. I'd rather bleed every single day forever or have a hysterectomy than do depo ever again. Actually, I chose to bleed twice a month for two years rather than even do regular bcp I hate synthetic progestins so much. Yes, 14-17 days of the month bleeding.

Have you tried MASSIVE doses of real progesterone? Not bcp, not provera or Mirena, but like Prometrium, PIO or NPC? I mean like 300-400 mg daily of Prometrium and equal doses of the other two (NPC about 30-40 mg). I would try one of those three before moving on to drugs that cause infertility or Lupron. Shoot, our insurance doesn't even cover Lupron no matter how it is to be used.

Also, as someone mentioned above, your bleeding (if not big C, endometriosis, or polyps etc) might be simply due to not ovulating. When I started DCI my bleeding immediately went to having AF just once every 3.5-4 weeks instead of every 2-weeks like the prior 2 years. I was, for once, ovulating; when I O I finally quit bleeding. Tests done during all the bleeding showed I was not O. Therefore, for me, O = no more bleeding finally. You might try IR meds to try and bump-start ovulation and see if that straightens out all that bleeding. Met is one, but also Avandia, Actos, Byetta, Orlistat (sp?), and many herbs incl my fave DCI.

I just try to warn anyone away from depo and IMO that other drug just sounds so drastic, so does any permanent surgery. After getting checked for polyps etc I'd at least try an IR drug or two and failing that do the massive doses of Prometrium for a few weeks and see if the bleeding stops.

I'm already on Avandia. I've just been having problems since going on BCP. I'm gonna try no drugs at all, clear my system out until I go for my second opinion on Oct. 3rd. If DF wouldn't be a wimp and get a visectomy I could get the novasure and be done with it all. he's too chicken. Men are such babies.
