Default In need of help... (clotting disorders)

Hi ladies, i need to ask you all to see if anyone knows about clotting disorders?

I lots my 10 week baby about 4 weeks ago, had healthy beat only days prior and perfect size so i am getting investigations done.

My aunty was telling me about a clotting disorder she was diagnosed with that caused her to loose her 14 week old baby boy. She got investigated and they learnt she had a clotting disorder, unfortuantly my aunty died suddenly of a heart attack just over a week ago. I cant for the life of me remember the name of her disorder and i've asked the family, no one knows. All i remember is that it began with a "T". I know they are hereditary and my mother died 17 years ago. that bit of information was sooo important. if someone can suggest what it might be it might jot my memory??

I need to see my OB/GYN in 2 weeks, i think he should know about it.

Also im spotting heaps at the moment, after MC i bleed for 1 weeks, stopped, cloudy cm, now bleeding and passing clots again. Not sure whats happening or if its normal. im getting cramps too??

thanks all!

I don't know anything about clotting disorders, but I was told that I might bleed for up to two weeks during a miscarriage and that there would be cramping and clots. I can't say for sure what would be normal for you, but I hope you are OK.

Was it thrombophilia? I don't know a whole lot about clotting disorders, but I think thats the official name for them.

i think that might be it! my other aunty also said that she had a protien S deficiency, from my google research (highly technical) i think they are one of the same - but the ob/gyn will be able hopefully to figure it out from the little pieces i have. thanks.

Clotting disorders as well as autoimmune disorders are a HUGE cause of M/c...I have had 3 losses and now they found 2 autoimmune disorders. My treatment is 1 baby aspirin daily and possibly lovenox(blood thinner) when pregnant. They can run a blood panel on you and find out-but some ass* Dr's make you wait for 3 losses.

I have anithyroidantibodies...thats got a T in it, HTH

Ohh my baby had a perfect heartbest...5 days later it didnt. Sooo....it could have been a clot, just dont know yet.

Pink Kitty - so sorry for your loss. Thrombophilia is any type of blood clotting disorder. There are different kinds (for example I have MTHFR and your aunt had Protein S deficiency), but the treatment is basically the same (as Jen said)- baby aspirin and Lovenox or Heparin (daily blood thinning injections) when pregnant. Given your family history, you should push for all of the thrombophilia blood panels with a hematologist.

I agree with Melissa and the others. Ask if they can run the whole panel for Thrombophilia (MTHFR, Factor V-leiden, etc...), APS and so on.

My sister has APS (found out after her first baby was stillborn), I don't have APS, but we're still running the whole panel of other possibilities anyways to be safe (especially since I've had two losses)

I don't see why a doctor would turn you down on testing, it just takes a few vials of blood and it's proactive. Plus, with a family history it's better to test than to not.

I am so sorry for your losses.
Best wishes.

thats starting to make sense now, i had lots of spotting prior to loss and my OBGYN said it was because of bleeding behind the placenta, which after googling thrombophilia, apparantly thats happens in women with that disorder. I certainly will be asking him for testing. also my dad got deep vein thrombosis quite young, its on both sides! it would be a relief if that was it, that way i know what the problem was. i just hope to God its not chromosomal incompatibiliy. i get the results from the baby soon, fingers crossed!

I agree with the others, definitely get the thrombophilia testing. Especially if you have a family history of thrombophilia. I found out I had some clotting issues after my 3rd loss (compound hetero MTHFR, protien S definciency) so I was on BA/heparin/foltx my last pregnancy. Unfortunately I still miscarried, but I think treating the clotting disorders did help because I got a heartbeat for the first time since my DS. I'm now getting additional autoimmune testing done with a reproductive immunologist because I strongly suspect I have issues with that in addition to the clotting, I have a few autoimmune diseases that keep flaring in pregnancy. Yeah, I'm a mess, not sure how my DS made it here with no treatments! GL!

this aunty with with the protien s deficiancy was my mothers identical twin, and she told me my mother bleed a lot in pregnacy but never suffered a miscarriage - they shared the same medical conditions. this aunty also had deep vein thrombosis, so hopefully the OBGYN takes this seriously, i read that it can be fatal women with thrombophila in pregnancy!
The ironic thing is that i had surgury when i was pregnant, very early as i had a neg test. And because it was on both knees, i was bed-ridden for a while and i had to inject blood thinners into my tummy daily, once i learnt i was pregnant at about 4 weeks i stopped. those injections hurt so much, i cant imagine having to do that for 9 months, but it would be sooo worth it to not have another MC. thanks for all your help, just having that T word to finally google makes it so much clearer.
