Last week my neighbor brought me some sweets she made. She said there was a festival in India and it was the last day, and she was doing a lot of cooking. I have wanted to do something for her for a long time, because it's her first time in the states (she and her husband moved here from India so he could work) and I'd like to be friends with her. I asked her if she was Hindu, and she said she was born Hindu but didn't really practice. I asked her because I want to be respectful of her dietary restrictions (so I don't cook her something that may offend her). She said she was a vegetarian but that she ate fish, and that her husband ate "everything" (not sure if that meant beef as well). I would like to make her something "American" like apple pie or blueberry cobbler, but both contain milk and butter. I didn't know if all cow products were off limits or if milk and butter were permitted. Also, what about the egg situation? I was thinking of bringing her some Christmas cookies when I make them, but I'm worried about whether or not she eats eggs.
Sorry to sound so stupid, but I really would like to be her friend (she is just so nice) and I don't want to offend her. Thanks for your help!
