Default Need Help with Research on PCOS and CI!

Hi. My name is Christi Fox and I located this site after being diagnosed with PCOS recently. I was fortunate enough to conceive last August, but, lost my little boy, Logan, in December 2004 to Cervical Incompetence (CI). I am a graduate student studying to become a physician assistant (PA) and have to complete a research project (thesis) in order to graduate. After noticing many women on this website and others question the possible link between PCOS and CI, I decided to conduct research on this topic.

After losing my little one, I became quite motivated towards finding ways to help women who have suffered a similar loss, and possibly preventing future losses from occurring. Although most of the literature says there is no link between the two, I have found no research study that has been performed to prove this to be true. I noticed one evening on this message board that someone made the comment "someone should research if there is a link between PCOS and CI". I agree!

I would like for this to be a study that will have statistical significance when completed, so that I might be able to get the results published and/or present the material to PAs/Nurse Practitioners/MDs in the future. I have two OB-Gyns who have already expressed great interest in the findings. I have had the study approved by the Institutional Review Board of Eastern Virginia Medical School and have arranged for the participation to be totally confidential. All you have to do is to copy and paste the questions into an email attachment and send the questions with answers to my email address. Once I open the email and download the attachment (which will have no identifying info on it), then I will delete the email itself.

For those people who do not care about maintaining privacy, please feel free to just copy and paste the questions onto an email and send with the answers and I will transfer the answers to my spreadsheet. No names/email addresses will be used for any reason. If this project stirs discussion on the message board as to who has PCOS and CI... feel free to chat amongst yourselves. However, please try to send me an email of your history so I can reach the 50 person participation I am shooting for. I plan to post the results of the study by the end of May.

The questions are:
  1. Age:
  2. Ethnicity:
  3. Have you ever been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)?
  4. Have you ever been diagnosed with Cervical Incompetence (CI)?
Age and Ethnicity are only collected to (hopefully) demonstrate that the results are from a representative sample of women in the U.S./Canada/U.K....etc.

Please send the questions with your answers to: Jrvikngfan@comcast.net. Please feel free to contact me if you should have any questions. I am hoping this study may help to provide women who experience these issues, the extra care from their providers that they deserve.

Thanking you in advance for your assistance,
Christi Fox
