Default Need help from Vitex users re af.......

I posted this on the 'ttc' board but thought I would try here too.......

..........I could really do with a bit of help here and any input is much appreciated

I stopped bcp's in December 2003 after deciding to ttc no.2. This year I have had only 3 'proper' periods and one episode of spotting. This is an improvement because i had NO periods whilst ttc no.1!!

The 3 'proper' periods were 6 weeks, 5 weeks and 7 weeks apart (I did conceive on the 3rd cycle after a cd34 ovulation but miscarried at the time I would have expected af).

After the m/c I decided I wanted to try to get my cycles regular so I decided to try Vitex and have been taking 4 x 400mg per day (as instructed on the bottle) since the m/c nearly 9 weeks ago. Problem is, all I have had this 'cycle' is a slight brown spotting for a couple of days at around the 7 week mark (definitely not pg tho!!).

Am I right in thinking that Vitex could be working against me? I know it hasn't been long but I did say that if I didnt get a 'proper' period on it by the 7 week(ish) mark then i could possibly assume that it could be hindering rather than helping.

I don't know whether to just stop taking it or not My Dr sent me for fsh/lh and testosterone tests the other day and I'm wondering if it could also skew these????

Help! Don't know what to do!

Andrea.

It does take quite a while for Vitex to kick in usually, so I wouldn't write it off after such a short amount of time.

When I first started taking it I had the same thing happen - just a bit of spotting (though mine was closer to 4 weeks), then the next cycle came exactly 28 days after the spotting. I had tried vitex for about 3 months when I tried to conceive #1, but became impatient and went down the IVF track, so stopped taking it. I'd seen no response after the 3 months that time - I think I would've had to have taken it longer than that to see a response in myself. This time I've also had quite a bit of alternative therapy which have all been gradually bringing my cycles close to normal (acupuncture, naturopathy, craniosacral therapy), so I think the vitex didn't have to work as hard and worked quicker.
