Need Hope After a M/C and an Ectopic

I've had a long rough year--I was dx'd with PCOS in May, had an early m/c in Aug, and got pregnant again in October (by accident). Things were looking good at first, but my beta did not rise as expected. It turns out I have an ectopic pregnancy and got the methotrexate shot on 11/6.
I am really freaked out now about my chances of being able to have a baby. What are others experiences that you have had. Success stories would be greatly appreciated.

I have a success story for ya. I have had 2 miscarriages AND a stillborn son at 37 weeks. I had serious doubts about being able to have a child as well. I had my first miscarriage in '99 then got pregnant on clomid in '01. I carried that baby to term but unfortunately lost him to an umbilical cord accident. That happened in July of '02. I got pregnant again in Sept. of '02 and miscarried in October. I also had the methotrexate shot. I got pregnant again in Feb of this year thanks to clomid again. Talk about being nervous! After all I had been through this pregnancy was so stressful. I worried all the time about the safety of this baby. Well, Benjamin was born on Oct. 10th and perfectly healthy. He is my miracle baby since he had the same umbilical cord knot that his brother had. Luckily, he was born safely.

I dont know if I have had an ectopic (RE wasnt sure if my m/c in Oct of last year was one or not)...but I have had 2 miscarraiges and a stillbirth. I know what it feels like to wonder if you will ever have a baby. I cant tell you that it will for sure happen but I will tell you that I am a sucess story. Even through all the stuff we went through, we are now blessed with a beautiful baby boy.

Hang in there and I am sorry you have had to deal with this. Losing a child is NEVER easy. Feel free to post here all you want. Thats what we are here for. Take care!

Just wanted to give you some hope. Before I got pg with my first DD, I had a m/c and an eptopic. After the eptopic, we had to wait 3 months and then tried again. I got pg two months after the break. I was so nervous that I had a hard time being excited. But I did have a good feeling and I didn't with the other two. I had a bumpy pg, but it was worth it. It can happen. After my DD, I had a blighted ovum and then went on to have another DD. The best of luck to you.

I had a m/c at 8 wks in December of last year. Had a D&C also. RE made us wait 3 cycle before we could try again. Tried again and had a chemical pg. Had to wait another 3 cycles. I am currently 20 wks pg and everything has been great. I know that it seems like it will never happen, but it does. Good luck to you!

I guess I'd like to know what the docs did differently that you were able to carry to term? My 1st m/c the numers were lower and I spotted on and off the whole time, but 2nd one the numbers were better and did not spot. Yet they both just stopped growing at 5-5 1/2 weeks. My RE says they will try antibiotics during the stim cycle, and maybe heparin, depending on how my recurrent m/c bloodwork comes back. I was also on 1 Crinone and 1cc PIO this last time, so maybe more PIO?? Thanks, jennifer

I have another success story for you. I had a m/c in 99. I did not conceive again until 10/02 with clomid. It turned out to be a ectopic, I was given methotrexate and it did not work for me. I had to have surgery and lost one of my tubes. I was sure that I would not get pregnant again. I decided to try clomid again and during this cycle I was told that my follicle was on the side that i did not have a tube and it was not going to work this month. I was in the middle of switching dr's and my new dr told me your boby can compensate and by suprise I conceived this cycle in march 03 and am currently 34 weeks and everything is going well. Thank you for sharing your stories...it helps to hear of others who have gone through this and ended up with a baby at the end of it. I think I am doing ok. My beta is going down like it is supposed to, but the ultrasound on Tuesday showed a bigger mass than last week. The doctor said it might just be swelling. I'll know more after my blood draw tomorrow.

Jenniferrose--I read something on the internet that said an egg from the side without a tube can travel down the other side. Do you think that's what happened to you?

Jennifer Pollock--It sounds like we have had similar experiences. Because my first loss was so recent, they were following my beta closely. When it didn't double as expected, we knew it would not be successful. After we discovered it was ectopic, one of the nurses told me it probably was a healthy pregnancy that ended up in the wrong place. Maybe there is something I missed in your case, but they are not going to do the repeat loss workup on me. I'll have an HSG when everything is resolved.

Does anyone know what they do if they find scarring or blockages in my tube during the HSG?

Hi there. I had the repeat HSG this week and RE said I had a little scaring or adhensions on the "tip" on the tube, but that it did not seem enough to warrant surgery. I'd think that if that is there, won't it be more likely to have another ectopic? and IVF could avoid that, but what if we just m/c again? I guess I'll see when we have our consult, if the stupid chromosome tests will ever come back. The clotting ones and all were all normal. I wonder if my one in the tube was a viable one in the wrong place, or another 5 week it's OK then stop growing like the 2 m/c I had?? I have no clue, since the betas didn't seem high enough to really be OK, regardless. RE just says"it was too early to tell" when I asked if they are really blighted ovums or something that is wrong with my eggs or something else. Not Helping!!!! Jennifer--I would like to talk to you as well, however I would feel more comfortable doing pm's instead of my email account. My beta was down to 23 on Monday, so by next Monday I hope to be at 0. I think I am passing tiny flecks of tissue again, so hopefully that is a good sign.

Jennifer--I was getting ready to edit my message but the power went out...I can totally relate to being scared to try again because I know I'll be opening up my heart again. The love I have felt for these little angels is amazing and I know it will help me be a better mom when the day comes. Everyone tells me it will be worth the pain.
If there is just scarring at the tip of the tube, wouldn't it interfere more with getting the egg in the fallopian tube, and not as much with transporting it to the uterus? I hope you get some answers soon.

Hi there. Hope you are holding up thru the holiday. PM's are fine, anytime! I guess it depends which tip she meant, the beginning or end of the tube, you know? They called Wed. at my office about the test results and I was off, and it was b/4 they called when I checked my messages- GRR! Then they were closed friday, so i plan to call tomorrow to see what the chromosome tests showed and when we can go in for the consult. I know what you mean about this all making us better mom's. I agree totally, but then that negative part of me thinks, will I get the chance to find out?? Guess we'll see what happens. Hope your beta keeps falling. It does help to have some closure to the whole thing, I think. Take care, jennifer

Ber, I had a miscarriage at 13 weeks in feb 95. In sept,95 I had an ectopic. Had surgery for that. The doctor did not take my tube, he cut the baby out of my tube. In 1999 I had an hsg and it showed I had TWO openings in that tube but nothing was wrong with it and they didn't know how it would affect trying to get pg. I am now 25weeks 3 days pg with a little boy!!!! Pam

but I am very frustrated. My bloodwork came back today and my beta is back to 0, but I had an ultrasound today and the mass in my fallopian tube is still 19 x24 mm. That's bigger than it was when it was first diagnosed! I had another ultrasound five days after my methotrxate shot and the mass was about 25 x 29mm. My NP was pleased it was shrinking, but I had thought it would be smaller. So what do you think--were my expectations too high or is it very slow to resolve? I've also been sick with the flu/bronchitis for the past two weeks--could that have influenced it?
Grrr...now I'm all worried about rupture again. Plus, I have been having some bleeding (bright red) even though I'm on BCP and my lining is thin according to the ultrasound. I wish I would have just had surgery and gotten it all over with.
Plus, since it isn't resolved, I'm going to have to have my HSG next year with my new deductible and worse co-insurance.
Sorry to rant like this, I'm just frustrated. Any experiences or insight would help.

If the beta is 0 (sorry, i PM'd you before reading this!!), why are you still having such a mass? Is it a cyst maybe? I would think that the meth shot would have caused it to reabsorb or break down, thus leading to the 0 beta. That's what mine did, but then again, we are all so different. I would also be worried about rupture as well as scarring, not to freak you out. You might call the doc and speak to them to see if they want to just do surgery and be done with it. How long ago was the shot? Mine was 4 weeks exactly to go back to 0 from the shot, and it was 3 weeks later that I had the HSG. Hope you are feeling better with the crud you have, too. jennifer
