Question need ideas for a party

My in laws just moved into their newly built house and I am giving them a housewarming party. I need some good ideas for the food. I want to limit my snacks to finger food sweets. I will supply plates- but I want people to be able to walk around with their food and be able to eat without having to use a fork. I also want a good punch recipe( non-alcoholic)
that I can serve. I plan to buy some cookies from the bakery but I wanted something else besides just cookies. Also any party ideas you can offer would be great! I didn't have much luck when I did a search on housewarming parties. Thanks in advance!

Veggie Pizza!!! It's basically packed croissant dough w/cream cheese mixed w/ranch dressing (dry mix) and cut up veggies. This is the recipe I've used and it's great! http://www.dianaskitchen.com/page/appi/vegpiz.htm
Do you have a Gordon Food Service near you? They sell a lot of frozen appetizers/sweets in big portions. It's one of my favorite places to shop, especially when I have to feed the youth group or something. I particularly like their mini-eclairs - no cooking, just thaw and eat!
HTH, Kara

mm the *best* punch on earth....
1 gallon of generic fruit punch
1 liter of club soda
a couple scoops of sherbet, rainbow or whatever flavor you like.

put it all in the punchbowl, let it sit for a few..mmm mmm good! And if you want to keep it even colder, use a ring mold and freeze some of the fruit punch in it. For even more pretty, put berries on the bottom of it before you freeze it. Then flip the ring and float it in the bowl. Looks really really nice, and doesn't dilute the punch, and keeps it nice and cold. Snackies.. if you had the time and patience, baklava ROCKS. Or you could go to a warefhouse type store, sams costco, whatever, and get a cake. We had one at our recption that was AMAZING, it was filled with cheesecake! MMM So tasty.

Good luck!!

And remember, veggie trays ARE your friend at parties!

A sweets party sounds neat! How about:

* Strawberries & pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate (you leave enough of the pretzle showing so that guests can pick up one end and it not be messy)
* Buckeye balls (chocolate covered peanut butter balls)
* Fudge squares in different flavors (small finger sized ones with white choclate, nuts, etc.)
* A dish of mixed candy (M&Ms, gels, peanuts, etc)
* Fruit basket (carve a small watermellon or cantelope into a basket, then fill with mixed fruit that can be eated with a toothpick) with pineapple, apples, mellons, etc.

Post photos and let us know how things turned out
Plastic toothpicks are a great substitute for forks if the items are not too crumbly. You can get them in all colors at some party stores.

Ditto the veggie tray! Also a bread and dip tray is nice. You can buy them or make them. It's a hollowed out round bread with dip in it. Around the edges are pieces of nice mixed finger sized breads. Be sure to put a spoon or serving utensil in the dip

Default Costco...

If you have a Costco near you they sell lots of little treats that you can buy. My favorite, and a total crowd pleaser is the Mini Quiches, they sell (60) for $9.99 in the frozen section.
You can cook the ones you need (15-20 minutes if I remember correctly) and keep the rest in your freezer.

I had a candle party last year and I only cooked about half of them, after about 20 minutes they were all gone! So I cooked the other half and by the end of the party there was nothing but crumbs left...BEWARE they are addicting. And not so sure they are 'cyster friendly' - but we gotta splurge once in awhile.

HTH

P.S. If you don't have a Costco near you they also sell them at Vons (I think it's called Safeway in some other cities) but they come in a smaller amount.

Hope you have a great get together!

A meat and cheese tray are always a favorite or a veggie tray. I like using took pick a lot when I throw little parties. You could do lil smokies and have them set out with tooth picks already in them.
