Question Need information on Byetta

Just wondering if anyone out there is on this new drug and if insurances are covering it for PCOS treatment?

My mom is on it for her diabetes. It really seems to be helping her. Her sugar numbers are definitely lower. Supposedly it is easier to lose weight, too, but she hasn't done that yet. One may actually need to exercise to do that!

About insurance, their primary insurance (I think it is Preferred Care) did not want to pay for it, however my dad's military insurance covers it. Mom just had to get a letter from Preferred Care saying they would not pay and then the other insurance picked it up. I believe Preferred Care said they were only paying for that drug for non-insulin diabetes patients, because the studies had only been done on patients who were not yet on diabetes shots. But my mom was already started on those by the time she heard of this drug. So, perhaps with a few more people like her, they can get it more widely approved for insulin-dependent diabetics, too.

Default Byetta

I have been on Byetta for a month now. I just had my blood test done yesterday so I haven't seen the results yet. My doctor was very optomistic about Byetta. He also told me that his sales rep for Byetta told him to not prescribe it to new patients because they just can't keep up with the demand right now.

My insurance covered it without a problem. I have Caremark. It took a little bit for them to get all of the information on their website though.

Good Luck!

I've been on byetta since uhh... November?! And my insurance hasn't batted so much as an eye lid at paying. I get it through our mail order pharmacy, and it costs me $62.50 for three months.

I am NOT diabetic, I think that needs to be noted. I have noticed my sugars have dropped dramatically, I requested a glucose meter specifically to keep an eye on it, they get really low sometimes! However, now, with that and my metformin, I do get mailings from my prescription co and my insurance company about diabetic stuff, some of which applies, and some doesn't.

All things considered, I think it's worth it for me, personally. The s/e were hell on wheels for the first little while, but have died down since.

Check out their website.. www.byetta.com

I'd be happy to answer any other ?'s you might have.

I am interested in learning more about this drug and how it is working for those of you who are on it.
I do NOT have diabetes, just the PCOS.

Sorry I just posted a thread about this... My MIL is on it since May and has lost 30lbs..... she does not have diabetes or PCOS just simply to lose weight. I called my insurance company which is Anthem and they said just as long as there is a medical reason such as Type II or PCOS they will cover it and its 25 bucks a month.

just wanted to know if its working out for everyone using it... is it helping with weight loss... and wanted to know if anyone that is TTC has had success.

TIA!!!!

I just started Byetta, and my insurance covers it because my doctor said that it is for Insulin Resistance. Good info in the Byetta Club thread.

yes, but for insurance purposes, it's 'insulin resistance'
So, by losing wait and controlling my IR, its supposed to alliviate my symptoms. I've been on it since Sun and I've lost 2 lbs. (No diet ot excercise yet)
