Red face Need IR friendly food suggestions when I have a stomach bug...

Hi! I was doing so good with the weight loss on the IR plan and the Met and exercise, and then WHAM, nasty stomach bug! Some people might think, well, not a problem, when you have a stomach bug you don't really want to eat, so there shouldn't be a problem. Well, I am wondering if anyone else has the same problem as me in that when I got my 'first' stomach bug since starting to address PCOS, I fell back on my old ways of dealing with it because that is how I grew up handling a stomach bug. What my mom would give me when I was sick like this to eat, was saltines and either ginger ale or coke, and while it worked for the stomach bug, it certainly doesn't help my PCOS and weight as an adult. I did manage to tolerate diet ginger ale, for some reason, the diet part of it didn't bother the nausea, but the diet coke, well that didn't help, it made it worse... SO, when I finally managed to get to the food store, I bought more diet gingerale and got some wheat crackers, but I was hoping for some suggestions for dealing with this the next time it arises. I didn't have coke that often, and I didn't really gain alot of weight, but I am up about a pound or too, instead of moving down the scale, it feels like I stalled. Maybe someone will have some other suggestions, tia

I feel, and take it w/ a grain of salt-that when i'm sick w/ a bug-first priority is getting better. I drink TONS of water; diet gingerale and even club soda. it's super carbonated and helps w/ the upset tummy. i do broth (being sure to check carbs and sugar content); sara lee delightful wheat toast (or another low carb variety) and when i start to feel better, homemade chic. noodle soup w/ low carb veggies and dreamfield pasta. I can't find sugar free gingerale around here so if i don't have it stockpiled from visits to NJ or family visiting me i go w/ the club soda-sometimes if my tummy is that upset i opt for the club soda right away-acts like the ginger ale/7 up but w/ the sugar.
Hope you are feeling better!

Hey, thanks, that is so funny that you mention that you stockpile sugar free gingerale from NJ, cause I guess that I take it for granted that it is available here in New Jersey, never really thought about it. I think you are right about having to feel better first, and then get back life. I think from now on I will stay away from coke, even though it helps, and just use canada dry to help. I didn't really feel like toast, although I do prefer wheat/multi grain bread. Do you have any suggestions for wheat/multi grain crackers that are IR friendly? Thanks, much appreciated!~Holly

Holly,
They have some crackers called "rye crisps" that are lower in carbs then reg. saltines. I think a brand "carb fit" makes stone wheat crackers too-they are good-but you have to get them from like netrition.com or some other low carb food site. I don't really eat LC crackers that much-maybe toast up some lc bread like croutons???
Where are you from in Jersey?

Holly
I lived in Menlo Park Terrace, which is as far as a mailing address in Metuchen but went to Iselin schools - mom's house off of Route 1 and Ford Ave-right between Woodbridge Center Mall and Menlo Mall. you probably heard of them right? just a little south of you ....
