ive been lurking on this site for a week or so, its been sooooo helpful, its unbelievable!!
but im still confused, ive been diagnosed with pcos for about.. 3 years, and all the doctors have told me to do is, lose weight!!!
which im sure u cysters know is not that easy, first the docs put me on dianette, which made me sick so they told me to try metformin, which i felt was working, but now my gp wont give me a repeat prescription for it, i have to go back to my gynacologist so i havent been on anything for about 3months, my symptoms seem to be getting worse, esp the facial hair and acne!!
im so confused, because from what ive been reading most cysters are on more than one medication for their pcos, why havent any of the docs done this for me?
when i talk about hte facial hair, which for me is the worst aspect of pcos, they tell me that i cant get rid of it, its there for life .. which makes me sooo depressed :|
surely this isnt true? because from the reading ive been doing here, it can go away!!!
ive got a gynacologist app tommorrow so hopefully i'll get more metformin but i want more medication to help with all my symptoms (which unfortunatly are all teh typical symptoms of pcos )
how do i get more out of my appoinment?
i feel like no one knows what theyre talking about and if i ask my gynacologist for more meds they wont give it to me :|
You're not alone. The medical establishment is often unsympathetic to cysters. My doctor, for example, had no problem putting me on Met when I asked, but refused to do the fasting glucose test, so I don't even know whether or not I'm insulin resistant. (No other doctor would do it, either! Don't ask me why!) You may need to go to different docs until you find one who understands PCOS and who wants to help you get better. In the meantime, I strongly recommend starting a good diet and exercise program. That alone often alleviates many of the symptoms -- it did for me. Best wishes!

Welcom to the site!! I happen to have had the luck of PCOS.. no meds ever...so you can see that I've been fighting a long battle... Back when I was diagnosed, they called it Stein-Leventhal syndrome... that's such an old term now.. I ended up with a hysterectomy.. well, they didn't know much back then, thought that it was just an ovary problem... fast forward to now days... I find I feel better with a low carb diet..more along the line of an insulin resistance type diet... NOT adkins diet I'v found that South Beach diet, and the Sonoma diet are quite simular. Good luck!! Feel free to post questions... there's a bunch of great cysters here on the site to help.
My advice for your appointment is to write down some things you want to ask before hand.... I find it helps me along the way, and feel free to take some notes!
the app went quite well thank god, the gyn was really nice, she gave me my Met.. yaaay!!! and she put me on vaniqa, and yasmine
but ..with the vaniqa, i have patches of coarse hair on my neck, but i dont shave it i just trim it when it gets really long, and i pluck the patches of hair on my chin, do i have to start shaving it do see the effects of vaniqa?
im worried that if i start shaving it and the vaniqa doesnt work for me, the hair will get worse :$
