I have been having intense red meat cravings for over two weeks. However, I have been avoiding red meat for 13 years. Is there any way to go back without getting a serious stomach ache?
I don't usually eat red meat either, but when I get that craving for a hamburger, I've found that free-range buffalo burgers do the trick. They are very lean and taste better than beef, IMO. They also don't upset my stomach afterwards. You can find buffalo hamburger patties at Whole Foods and most health food stores.
I have heard that ostrich is also a good replacement for red meat. I have never tried it as I eat beef or lean hamburger meat. Plus, I cannot get it down here.

I would check your iron levels. I had a friend who was a perfectly happy vegan for years. Suddenly she started craving red meat. Her Doctor tested her iron levels, she was dangerously low. Her body was having a hard time producing red blood cells because she was so low. She was on iron pills and iron drops and ate spinach all the time, but nothing helped. Her doctor told her to eat red meat every meal for a month and see if that helped and it did. It literally saved her life.
You could try a turkey burger. If you use the right seasoning it can taste just like regular burgers and might help with the cravings. However, if you do go back to eating red meat, the way to do it is just a little bit at a time. I was a vegetarian and didn't eat any meat, and now I do white meat but usually no to very little red meat. When I added white meat back in, I literally started at 1 chicken nugget because it was an easy way to get a VERY small amount so I didn't upset my stomach. I was fine and never had problems slowly building up to a full serving from there. So I would say for red meat, just start with a very small portion and eat that much only a day for about a week, and then you can slowly add more as needed.

If you've been avoiding red meat for a long time I might suggest rabbit, It's diet is very similar to that of the larger grazing animals with out the ethical impact.
I'd suggest starting with a broth, then soup then stew...
It may still give your guts some grief but it won't have all the extra hormones and drugs in it that are required to get a cow to the dinner plate.
As far as iron problems kale and spinach are so much more digestible that they should be your first line of attack on that front. And this is coming from a girl who loves her steak ( i just don't ever try to justify it as healthful)
