Default Need PCOS doc in northern AL

The doctor I was using was a specialist in PCOS and all that goes with it, but he took at promotion in California and left me. The 2 guys that took over for him really didn't know any more about it than I do, they are mainly infertility specialists. So I am back at square one. Haven't been to a doc regarding PCOS in about a year and a half because all they do is tell me to lose weight. They don't give me any medicine or any suggestions except eat the protein diet. I just can't. I hate it. It makes me sick. I have to have my breads and pastas included in my diet. When I told my doc that I can't live on that diet forever, you know what the doc said? "Just don't eat then." I am very discouraged and need a good doc in my area, and fast.

Default Endo in AL

Hi,

I am seeing an Endo in Gadsden. His name is Homan D. I was seeing dr. Long and Brookwood, but I was very unsatisfied with their services. Anyway, maybe this will help you.

Angry doctor long- I seem to have been dismissed by this group!

I have been a patient of ART in Birmingham Al. I had cyst develop on long protocol and they don't want to try different protocol because chances of success are too low.
How did you find doctor in Gadsden ?

I mainly see him to treat PCOS and thyroid. He may be able to recommend you a good fertility doctor.

How do you like your doc in Gadsden? Does he seem pretty knowledgable in PCOS? If you are wanting to see someone for infertility, I believe that the GYN in Kirkland Clinic at UAB (where my doc is) would be a great place to try... I just wish they knew more about PCOS. At least I know what is wrong with me now. All the doctors in Cullman that I went to just told me to lose weight. That all my symptoms were just because I was fat and if I got skinny, everything would magically go back to normal. I knew something was wrong with me, thank God I finally found a doctor with some sense. Some doctors do not deserve to be in practice!

I will definitely have to check out the doc in Gadsden. Thanks!

I am pretty sure I was seeing the same specialist you were. When he took the job in CA, I asked who he recommended in N. Alabama. He recommended Dr. Linda Gilliam in Decatur. She did an internship under him. I have been seeing her since he left and she is wonderful. I have been very pleased with her and her nurse Ivy. They are very well informed about PCOS and have done all they can to help me and answer any question I might have.

Wow, Decatur is a lot closer to me than Birmingham or Gadsden. I am gonna call them! I am so excited about that! If Dr. Azziz recommended her, she must be good.

Could you please give me the phone number or name of the place where I can get an appointment?

I really appreciate it!

I see Dr. Mary Robbins in Florence as my gyn. She is the one who diagnosed me with PCOS. She has it herself and I think she's the best. I don't know about who to see as an endocrinologist though. Good luck!

Florence is such a long drive for me, but if that was nearest place, I'd go! Thank you for the suggestion. I am always open to those!

Well, I like my endo, he's pretty good. I saw a gyno in Birmingham yesterday and he seemed okay, although he suggested bcp which I am kinda scared to try. Did any of you tried birth control pills to regulate cycle? it helped? Thanks

Dr. Gilliam works out of the Womens Center at Parkway Hospital on Beltline Rd in Decatur. She has been wonderful for me, and couldn't thank Dr. Azziz enough for recommending her. Her phone # is 256-350-9700. I have a friend with PCOS who sees her and loves her also. There are 3 doctors (including her) in the practice. Dr. Manifold (who I do not treats for PCOS) and new lady. I am not sure of her name, but here she is good also. Do not know if she specializes in PCOS though.

A website that might contain her info is....http://www.dpw.medem.com/

Thanks so much for the info! I have an appointment with Dr. Gilliam in May. I am so excited! I haven't been to the doc in about 2 years, and I've gained weight and gotten more symptoms since then, so I can't imagine how all my hormone levels will test out now...but I'm excited about the possibility of finally getting help!

I can't wait to see what she says, and how she will help me. If she studied with Azziz, she must be better than the guys that took over for him because they don't know much at all compared to him. I wonder why he didn't tell me about her? I asked him if his replacements knew a lot about PCOS, and he said that they don't know as much as him, but they know more than anyone else in the community. That didn't make me feel very confident. I went once after they took over, and it was a waste of time and money. They didn't do anything to help me. They basically just got on me about being fat and told me that if I'd lose weight, everything would work itself out.

I'm very excited about finally seeing someone who knows something about PCOS. I'll let you know how it goes!

Thanks again.
