Default Need prscription for Spiro - which doctor?

Hi ladies,

I want to get a prescription for spironolactone. The gynecologist told me she doesn't handle such cases and that I need to see an edo.

But my appt with the endo is one month away. Is there some doctor I can see in order to get the prescription. Also why is it so difficult to get an appt with an endo.

Thanks!

i have never understood why these dr's just keep passing the buck, since when does a gyn not treat PCOS? that makes no sense, i will never understand these crazy drs!

it will be harder to get in with an endo b/c (all the ones i've seen) require a referral. so if she doesn't handle that stuff, she should give you the referral to an endo. i don't know about all but of the two i saw only one would really deal with pcos. have you tried maybe your GP/family dr? i get all my meds, from asthma, antidepressants, thyroid, and met and spiro from my FNP. she knows about pcos and does my tests for cheaper and stuff cuz i usually don't have ins. try around, don't be afraid to aask the worst they can say is no. but i don't see why it would be such a big deal if you have a dx of pcos. good luck

I got my original prescription from my gp (she's an internist). She also referred me to a gynocologist for an official diagnosis of PCOS. The gyno upped my dosage of the spiro and now that is who handles my prescriptions. I have never seen an endo so I can't help you there.

My gyno referred me to an endo, and I've had a seperate gyno/endo for about 4 years now. My gyno gives me BCP, endo gives me spiro. Honestly, I wouldn't want to go to only a gyno for PCOS. PCOS is an endocrine disorder more than a reproductive disorder, IMO. It causes reproductive problems, but they aren't the root of the matter.

FWIW, I don't think a 1 month wait for a doctor appointment is too big of a deal. Mine always schedule at least a month in advance - some of my doctors, I schedule things 6 months in advance.
