Default Need razor advice (pre laser treatment)

I made an appointment for next Tuesday to have my first laser treatment done. They told me stop tweezing (of course). I've never shaved, but have to tweeze daily. The majority of my hair is from the point of my chin bone to the crease in my neck (about the width of my mouth). I also a little on the mustache and jawline, but it isn't too bad. What should I use to shave? I use the Venus razor on my legs. I assume I should keep a separate razor for my face so that the blade won't be dull.

My biggest problems is ingrown hair. I've been reading about Tend Skin to help that problem. Has anybody tried it? I'm going to buy some this afternoon at a nearby Day Spa that carries it. I need to get the ingrowns out before laser!

I prefer men's razors as they're designed for faces not legs. I use the Mach3 turbo, and it gives me the best shave for a blade razor.

Also, to avoid ingrowns, the best thing is to exfoliate. Get a nice gentle one for your face, and use it every second day for the first week, and then two times per week after that. It really does make a difference. Do it just before you shave and you'll get a closer shave too.

Be careful with Tend Skin on the face. It is pretty powerful. It burns my face. You might want to dilute it a little before using it on your face.

Congrats on going in for laser!

Lepus and SleeplyDumpling, thanks for the advice about the razor and Tend Skin. I used a Venus 3 blade this morning because I know that it is almost impossible to cut myself with it, and the first time I was worried I would have knicks everywhere. I hadn't read your post yet, but for some reason I thought to exfoliate before I shaved. I'm glad to know I did it in the right order. I used Tend Skin last night and this morning, and so far it hasn't burned. I can tell it is drying. How can it not be with the first ingredient as alcohol? After it dried on my face, I put on my regular skin care stuff. Maybe that diluted it.

After shaving if you use the proactive repairing lotion...it prevents ingrowns..since I began using it I haven't had any ingrown hairs or problems with my skin...and you can also use it on other areas you are worried about getting bumps or ingrowns. Hope this helps!! I will swear by the lotion alone but the entire proactive product line is great...However the repairing lotion works specifically for my shaving needs.

TendSkin's active ingredient is salycillic acid (sp) - basically aspirin - basically an ingredient in a LOT of OTC acne products. You may find an acne product helps with the ingrowns AND costs a lot less. (I like the Clean & Clear salycillic acid scrubby pads... I think they are called blackhead fighting pads? The SA exfoliates and that's what helps with the acne and the ingrowns.)

I tried tendskin once and I HATED it AND it was so expensive (to use on the legs at least... it was like $20 for 4 piddly ounces!)

As for shaving... I use a 3 bladed razor, I can't remember the name... the black and green plastic one. Men's. I just use it dry. Look up, hold skin taught, whisk it over the stubble. Works well for me - but I only have a little but now.

I had laser a few years ago and it was great! They say it usually takes about 3-5 treatment to be permanent, but that was not my luck... it took me 8! Since my laser I have gained quite a bit of weight, so I am starting to see hair again (not as bad where I had laser) in new places! I also use Proactive and it's great. The daily wash is an exfoliator as well. I work in the cosmetic industry and I have been given everything, but I only use proactive. Good luck with the laser.
