Default Need a response for doc's who don't believe Im PCOS

Hey there,
I know there was just a post about not "looking" PCOS. Man am I having trouble! I wasn't diagnosed till 22 cuz Im thin and finally I found a great new doc who dx me and then helped me get pregnant on Met and Clomid. BUT, then our insurance needed to switch and Im with Kaiser now and in the middle of my prenatal care. And since with Kasier you see a different doc each visit I can not tell you how many times I have been told I don't look like I have PCOS, I don't have PCOS or "why do I THINK I have PCOS?" It is so frusterating and Ive had to fight to stay on Met.
Anyway, I am looking for an appropriate response to these doctors each time they question my PCOS. Ive just responded with, "Ya know that's really dated information, there are lots of women who get misdiagnosed because they're thin but they infact do have PCOS" - Im usually met with a bunch a big words and terms meant to confuse me and make them sound like they know what theyre talking about and that I infact do not REALLY have PCOS but if I want to keep thinking that then fine.
Just wondering if anyone can give me some good responses to say to these doctors that will shut them up. Statistics, studies, etc. I know my LH and FSH levels indicate PCOS and my doc said I have the string of pearls thingy but I don't know how to say any of that in a confident enough way that I sound like I know what Im talking about. (Im pretty newley diagnosed and feel pushed around alot)
Thanks for your help!
I really appreciate this site! - Katie

Hi Katie,

I'm sorry to hear you're having a tough time. I don't really have any solutions but am curious... I'm with Kaiser also. I'm not sure where you are but I'm in California. From what I understand you should not be shuffled around to different doctors. Hence their "choose your physician" to make you feel like you have so much choice. Anyway, I've been seeing the same doctor for all of my prenatal. Even for all of my other care I see the same, chosen, doctors. You might want to dig into that a bit.

How about "looks can be decieving"?

Yeah, not all tall people like to play basketball either

I always got asked if I played basketball when I was younger because I was tall, ticked me off...

Maybe just point blank say, "will I have to go through this everytime I come in? Can we just agree I have PCOS because I have most of the signs and the bloodwork to back it up?" I'd tell them it is frustrating to waste time each appt going through the diagnosis. I know it is hard, since each doctor doesn't read all the notes. Could you talk to an office manager and explain you need to see say only 2 or 3 of the doctors so you don't have to go through the hassle everytime and at least let them know you are unhappy. You still may have to see any of the doctors but at least the office is aware of the problem.

If you are really gutsy, photocopy some articles relating to thin PCOS women and hand them out when you get questioned. Maybe you can teach them some new info!! hehehe.

WHy is it that doctors pick ONE signs and you have to have it??? NOt all diabetics are heavy, not all people with gray hair are old, and hey, even MEN can get breast cancer (I bet those guys get more problems than we do).

Congrats on your PG!!
