Hi Ladies,
I wanted to get some opinions on what my doctor is having me do.
I've been on Metformin since October 2006. I've lost nearly 40 pounds, cycles are *starting* to get regular, I have no more migraine headaches, no pms.. etc....
Anyway, about 6 weeks ago (so 5 months into Metformin) my hair started falling out in a ferocious manner. In addition, my feet are always cold, and I always sit with a blanket at home. I feel generally tired too, like I felt before I started the Met. I pass out every night by 8:30pm (DH loves that...not!!)
I went to the doctor who said it could be my thyroid and he did some tests. My TSH was 2.24 and Free T4 was 1.11.
When he called with the test results, he said these lab values are fine. BUT, then he called back today and said since I'm having so much hairloss he wants me to try a 6 week course of thyroid medication to "boost" my thyroid.
My hesitation is that the lab values seem remotely normal, and I'd hate to add a "hormonal" medication to my day when I already have so many issues with crappy hormones.
Any Cysters out there with a similar experience who've had success supplementing "normal" thyroid values? Or do you think I should call him back, and press him on whether he thinks it is just the Metformin that is causing the hairloss??
Thanks soooo much for listening ladies! I appreciate all of your valuable insight.
With many thanks,
Amanda
