I have looked through tons of books and searched information online about the PCOS/Hypo combo and it's alot to take in.
I am on Synthroid 1.25, have been for about three weeks and I can tell it makes me feel better. 2000 mg/day of Metformin for PCOS. Oral progesterone for days 12-25 of my cycle, Yasmin and B12/choline/inositol injections once weekly.
What is your advice on how to even to begin to lose weight and have more energy?
I have noticed most people who are on Met, attempt to low carb (if they can't they moderate their carbs). Somewhere in this forum, it is also mentioned that low carbing seems to suit us thyroid girls.
Good luck with the research, to much of it goes over my head.
You could do with some calcium & magnesium supplements. They help with the brittle nails, joint & muscle pain that goes along with hypo as well as the PMS, menstrual and gastro problems etc....
Take 500mg calcium & 250mg magnesium together (you can buy them premixed). Don't take more than that in one sitting as your body can't absorb more than that at a time. Also take it at least 4+ hours away from your thyroid medication, so if you take the thyroid in the AM, take the cal/mag with dinner.
The b12 is great, but other b vitamins help with energy too. I'd switch to a B complex if I were you. Did you have pernicious anemia, is that why you are on b12 injections? Large quantities of b12, unless they are to fix a serious deficiency, usually stop helping after a little while.

I think the best thing for me to do is to try to watch glycemic index. I have been told to stay away from Atkins by more people than I can count.
I purchased The Glucose Revolution recently and though I haven't finished it, I have been pleasantly surprised at the foods I can still have in moderation.
