Need some help dealing with being diagnosed with pcos!!
Hi everyone, my name is Lisa. I was diagnosed a few weeks ago with pcos. I've always known that there was something wrong with my body, but I just never knew what. I had to have one of my ovaries removed when I was younger because of a torsioned cyst. In the last few years, I've had almost all of the symptoms of pcos. I've finally have an answer to what is wrong with my body. I've been put on birth control pills, and since I've been taking them, I've been very depressed and emotional. I just wonder if anyone else felt this way?? No one seems to really understand what I'm going through, I don't even really understand it. I ache at the thought of possibly never having children. How has everyone else dealt with this?? How do you deal with your body not working the way it's supposed to? Has anyone else felt like they're a failure at being a women? Or am I just going a little crazy? I would greatly appreciate any insight any of you have into this.
THANKS!!!
Welcome to SC! First, try to remember that we all know what you are going thru, and you are definitely not alone. Try to read as much as possible on this site and ask plenty of questions. We will help you in any way we possibly can.
As for your questions, when I am on BCP's, I feel terrible too. I think it is pretty common. While the issue of having children is a big one that is hard to deal with, it is important to remember that plenty (probably the majority) of PCOS patients nowadays are able to successfully conceive and have a baby, and plenty also adopt their children. You CAN become a parent, one way or another.
Have you seen an endocrinologist, or, better yet, a reproductive endocrinologist? In case you are not familiar with these, they are doctors that specialize in endocrine (hormonal) disorders. FOr many of us cysters, we find that the RE is better because they have special training in fertility as well as endocrinology and how the two go together.
Also, in case you haven't already, you may want to look into getting put on metformin (brand name Glucophage). This has helped many cysters to varying degrees and is considered the newest and best treatment for PCOS, because PCOS is linked to insulin resistence and diabetes.
Good luck to you! I hope you don't find it all too overwhelming. We are all here for you and you can ask us anything.

Welcome to Soul Cysters. You are definately not alone and you have come to the right place. There is so much information on this site. I know it will seem overwhelming. But once that has worn off, you will realize life does go one with PCOS.

Welcome to SC... you're definitely not alone and you'll find people here that have been through the same thing that you have.
BCPs do have that effect on some people. If you're really struggling the doctor can swap the type or take you off them altogether.
My doctor is a big fan of treating without medication first (ie diet and exercise changes). Often if you lose just 10% of your body weight your symptoms improve. Otherwise metformin is a good option IF you are insulin resistant, which the doctor needs to test for.

I am totally feeling the same as you. I was just dx with pcos a month ago. I was rushed to the emergency room with a twisted ovary and they performed surgery and found that I had pcos. During surgery my dr also found that my ovarian ligaments were unusually thick/long so everything inside me is flip flopping around according to him. I am just shocked that it took all this time and problem after problem to diagnose this. I wish that more people were aware of this. As soon as co-workers found out what I had, a few were concerned because they had similar symptoms and since then have been told they also have pcos. My DH and I are ttc and have been to a reproductive endocrinologist and have just started clomed. During my vaginal ultrasound yesterday my dr also informed me that I have a retroverted uterus to top everything off. I am starting to wonder if I will ever be able to have a child I so desperately want.
