Question Need some help please....Might be taking Clomid?!?!

Ok, this might be long, but if you can bare with me, we'll get there.

Ok, so as you can see from my siggy, dh and I have been planning on waiting on TTC for a while. We have some stuff we want to do first, and we were getting really caught up in the whole roller coaster part of ttc and it was just to much. So I made peace with it and have been perfectly fine. FAST FORWARD TO MY APPOINTMENT ON FRIDAY. So I go see my doctor and she tells me she wants me to try Clomid. I've only gone to her for 6 months, so she wasnt familiar with my experience with Clomid. I told her that my last doctor had me try it at 50mg and I over stimmed on it. She told me she had never heard of that happening at such a low dose. She looked back into my chart and saw that I have ALOT of cysts regularly on my ovaries and that the only way to get rid of them is to take bcp. Well, she said the reason I had trouble might be because I was put on the Clomid WITHOUT having taken bcp first and since I already had alot of cysts that the Clomid may have mad the situation worse. She said that if I take bcp for a month or 2 and then take the Clomid I should be fine. I told her I was always told I had to take bcp for a minimum of 3 months and she said there's no reason to have to take it that long. She said 1-2 months was more than sufficient. Then I told her I have been doing Castor Oil packs because I was told not to take bcp anymore from my regular doctor due to bp issues. She said my bp has been perfect and very well controlled for over 6 months now and there's no reason I cant take bcp again. She said that only pertains to people who are currently suffering from uncontrolled high bp. So I said I have to think about it and talk it over with dh. I have another appointment on the 8th to discuss it all with her and start the bcp if thats what we decide. I told her we had planned on waiting, but she said that we can if we want but she'd like to start this as soon as possible because she heard of a program starting here for women with PCOS only to try some new medication for free along with up to 3 free IUI to see if it works, BUT I have to have done a minimum of 4 rounds of Clomid first. The program is suppose to be within 6 months or so. Its a trial thing, I guess. She said she thinks I would be a good candidate but that there are things I have to try first. She said "who knows? Maybe the Clomid will work for you and you wont even need the trial." So I said all that to ask this: What would you do? The free trial sounds great, but I'm afraid of the Clomid bc of my past experience with it. On one hand, what she said makes alot of sense, but on the other hand, I was in soooo much pain and was told by my old ob to never take Clomid. So I've avoided it like the plague. And now I'm being told to take it. And I know there's an increased chance for multiples with Clomid. Twins would be ok but more than that scares me. Especially since dh and I are 100% absolutely AGAINST reduction. Please help me out, ladies. My mind is racing and all jumbled right now. I just dont know what to do. And then there's the cost. My insurance doesnt cover it, so I worry about the high cost the pharmacies charge. She wants to up the dose every month if I dont get pg. Go 50, 50, 100, 150. She said going to 200mg isnt necessary for the trial. So is it ok to buy the Clomid online? Is it safe? Can you trust the companies? Or should I pay the higher costs of the pharmacies here? Should I even try the Clomid at all given what I was told in the past? Does what my doctor said now make sense and sound ok? I really need you ladies to help me out here.

If you made it to the end of this, thanks. I appreciate any and all help/advice you have.

5 pills of the 50mg clomid is 8.99 at rite aid... i don't know how much ordering it online would save... I have never ordered meds online, but that would scare me.(especially with you past problems)

my2 - a couple of thoughts. 1st, clomid is $9 at walmart for 50mg for the week. so you're talking $27 a month for meds at the highest level. that's really very reasonable compared to some of the other costs we incur for infertility. i suggest just looking around for the best deal, there is no reason to pay alot b/c your pharmacy doesn't offer discounts.
2nd, the possibility of twins is only 7% compared to 5% in the regular population. but as long as your re is doing follie scans, you can choose whether to bd or not if you get alot of mature follies.
i understand wanting to take a break. when you've been through what we have, sometimes you need to just relax and get away from ttc. that said, there is little harm of doing bcp for a couple of months while you think over this clomid thing.
also - congrats on the great bp lately. is it meds or diet?

Thanks for the replies. I guess the thought of taking the Clomid is scary to me given what happened. But I guess maybe it's ok if my ob is watching me. We'll see. As for my bp, it's a combination of diet and meds. I'm on 25mg of Lisinopril. I also cut out all salt from my diet, plus I work out for 30 minutes a day 4 days a week as well as walk around the block every night. So all 3 things seem to have done the trick.

My2: I agree w/ Dianna. You could take the bcp's for a couple months while you decide if that's really what you want to do. Clomid doesn't cost that much so the medication usually isn't the huge cost. The u/s's & b/w are the extra costs. I would do it if your dr is going to monitor you so you don't overstim. I too have heard to do bcp's to "calm" your ovaries before treatment (they do the same w/ IVF).

Good Luck!
Traci

PS: My "baby" will be 3 a couple weeks after yours & she also says she's not a baby anymore
