    Default Need some Info

Hi I am new here and have just been reading up on PCOS. I have a few questions and hopefully a few answers might be able to be answered. 2 years ago I had dermoid cysts removed off my ovaries. Before this happened and before I found them I was loosing weight quite well, it was slowly coming off with me just eating sensibly and exercising. After I had them removed it all weird, the weight loss continued but very very slowly stopping altogether about 3 months later. I have also had very painful periods since these cysts were removed. I guess my question is does PCOS have a big impact on weight loss? I have tried every diet under the sun and nothing seems to be working for me now The information I have been reading - well some of it fits me (the excess hair growth on chin, chest, breasts, stomach, not being able to loose weight, irritability, mood swings and depression). How do you discover if all this is to do with PCOS? I try to have yearly check ups on my ovaries to ensure that the cysts dont return. The last one I had done the doctor told me that there was what looked like some growth but assured me it was just scar tissue. How do you get your doctor to test for it?

Thanks for any information you are able to give me....might shed a bit of light.

Many "regular" doctors are not familiar w/PCOS so I would find and Endocrinologist that you are comfortable with. Also, if you are IR (Insulin Resistant) it can cause weight gain, depression, moodiness, etc...and you should be on Metformin, and insulin sensitizing medicine. Have the endo give you a 2hr Fasting Glucose Tolerance Test. I would also have your estrogen, thyroid, etc...checked as PCOS can cause problems there too. GL!

Well I went to the doctor at lunch time today and before I even mentioned PCOS and was just explaining a few things I had she mentioned it and has suggested that I go and see the gyno that did my dermoid cyst operation 3 years ago. I go back to her next week for a pap smear at which stage she wants to see all my ovary scans that i have had over the years and then she will write the referral. She seems to be a really nice good woman doctor - FINALLY ONE EXISTS!!!!
