So I went to the doctor yesterday, she wanted to check my progress on metformin and talk about the next step. I started taking 1,000mg/day in May, so i've been on it for a lil over 3 months. She said she was worried because the metformin had not given me a cycle on my own yet. (I've had to take provera to induce.) And said she had a few options.....
1. Up the metformin and wait and see if it would work (she said she didn't think it would)
2. Try clomid....but she said she'd only let me try TWO cycles
3. or move on the clomid and IUI (which is what she wanted to do)
I thought that seemed quick to move to IUI and not a least give clomid a few trys. So I said I wanted to try clomid first for a few reasons.....mainly because of the cost (our insurance won't cover IUI and she said just the meds costs $1200)
So she started me on 100mg Clomid CD3-7. I'm already really stressed that it won't work and that I only get two months on it.....and if it doesn't work we will have to put ttc on hold until we save money up for IUI...
anyone have any thoughts or ideas about all of this....why only two cycles? what are my chances that it will work? any success stories first or second try? I'm just so upset/stressed/frustrated/depressed right now...

I'm not sure why she only wants you to try for 2 cycles, especially if you aren't pushing for more aggressive treatment. I did 5 cycles of Clomid before moving onto IUI (which was too many, in retrospect). I made the mistake of not insisting my DH get a SA. I asked him, but he procrastinated. Turned out that after 5 cycles of Clomid, he gets the SA and we find out that Clomid never had a chance on its own because of male factor, so onto IUI we went. Definitely insist on having your DH get a SA. If your insurance doesn't cover it, it will be anywhere between $50-$200 and well worth it! GL!!!

thanks for the response! My doctor did mention him getting it but then went on to talk about more stuff and I forgot to ask how we go about it. Do I call her to make the appointment or do we go somewhere else? And I have no idea why she will only let me do two cycles.... My insurance only covers "3 ovulatory cycles" so I think i should at least get three tries!

Where would my DH go for a SA? To my dr (OB GYN)? Would she give the order or how does that work? We don't have a family dr. right now, not because we don't want one, I just don't have one that we've found that we like. Just wondering where they go and how they do the SA?
THANKS!

It depends. If you are getting treatment at a fertility clinic, then generally everything is done in house (i.e., they have their own lab and even rooms filled with porno to help DH out). If you are seeing an OB/GYN, she/he can give you a lab slip for your husband. You should call the lab first, because not all labs do sperm analyses and most likely, they'll want your DH to make the sample at home (your OB/GYN or the lab can give you a sterile cup) and bring it in right away. HTH!
