i need your help i go to see my Doctor on Friday and i think she is going to be hard to convince to give me Met.
I need to print some info off for her too read.
I've found some info but most of it points towards weight and IR.I weigh about 10 stone so i'm not really over weight and i know that'll be the first thing she points out.
I have found some that may help it mentions pocsters that dont have any af's (which is me) and goes on to say how it can benifit them.
How many uk cysters are there taking met?Was your Doc hard to convince?
Any help would be appreciated

I was dx 10 years ago and I still see the same gyn. He gave me met 2 years ago, but a friend of mine has just had pcos dx and was given met on her first visit to gyn, I think its given out more now than before as I think they have realised how much it can help us pcos'rs
Good luck with your visit, let us know how what happens!
Lynn

I cannt convince my ob/gyn as he says it doesnt always work, so I am beating my head off a brick wall. However, I am having a glucose intolerance test early in the New Year and hopefully my female gp might be predisposed to listening to me and open to suggestions.
I often think, but this is my opinion that since we know a lot more about our own conditions than the medics they dont like it!
Anyway good luck Nicola hope it all goes well for you.
Helen.
P.S. let us know how you got on!

Hi Nicola!
I was dx almost a year ago and I was put on bcp. I asked my gyno for met, bus she refused it and didn't even want to check my articles. 3 weeks ago I went to a different gyno, I had a glucose fasting test (i'm still waiting for the results) and I have to see him in a month and he might put me on trial for met.
Good luck and keep us posted
BTW, are you ttc?
I couldn't convince my GP to prescribe Met even though I had taken it before. Luckily though he referred me to a gyno who did. I know some doctors feel it often doesn't work but why can't they let us try?
Sam

You wont believe wot just happened at the doctors. My doctor just gave me a perscription for the Met just like that.i didn't have to try to hard either.
I just said to her that the last time i saw her i asked wot she knew about pco and she said not a lot.
So i told her about this site and that people that used it were on met. i gave her the info that i had printed off she had a quick flick threw it and said yes ive heard of it being given before for pco's and for a second i didnt think she was going to give me it .So i came over all emotional (haha, i can put on the water works when thier needed)and said i'd had enough and she said wot of wanting a baby , pain or no af. I just said of everything, and there you go she handed me a prescription.
She said you know how it works for the blood tests come back when you need them.
I just had to sign to say i knew that it wasn't used legally in this country for pcos in case anything went wrong.
I also asked her of the chances of my daughter having pco's and she said i hope not cos she's had pco's and has 2 kids.
I nearly dropped through the floor have you ever know of a doctor that has pco's and knows nothing about it.
She kept the info i gave her to read for herself.
Sorry its a bit long

That's such great news! Congradulations! I hope the met works out for you. I'm actually on my third month, and while there's no af yet, I do feel A LOT better than I did before met. Keeping my fingers crossed for the magic "o". I can't believe the Dr didn't know about PCOS and had it herself! I guess maybe it's b/c she's had children already?
Take care,
Jen
