Well what are you currently doing WITH the met? diet, low carb, excercise? I've lost 23 pounds since i started bet, in march so it is possible. But I have to work really hard at it with excercise and lifestyle changes in food

You have to change your eating habits! I have a hard time with that. Especially since eating salads or anything leafy with metaformin starts off this rumble in the jungle. But I have to say that it does subside after a while. But I had to stop eating past 8pm, start walking 45 minutes a day and lay off the breads, pastas, rice and starch. I have lost 8 pounds, but very slowly. I started this in November of last year. I dont get to discouraged because I didnt gain this weight in a day and I definitely will not loose it in a day.
Just think positive and dont give up. Have patience with yourself and your body. Hope this helped.

Saquana ~ Are you on regular Metformin or Metformin ER? Also, maybe talk to Dr. about going up to 2000?

Maybe you should look into a low carb diet to help the met work.

You are defninetely not alone in this battle. I have been on 1500 mg of met xr since the beginning of December. I lost an initial 5 lbs or so and then nothing at all since. I do the low carbing, in a healthy manner, I have cut out all breads, pasta's, sweets, etc. I jog 4 miles a day with sprints thrown in, at least 4 days a week.

I have an apt on May 6 and will be talking to my doc about this and what to do.

I hope it you start seeing some loss soon!

Hi..i'm also having problems with met and losing weight...i've taken met for like 20 days already and i have GAINED 8lbs..it is so depressing..and i also don't experience the popular GI effects..i'm just wondering if it has something to do with that or what..i'm just surprised that i'm gaining more and i'm always hungry like every hour..this is sad.

Like some of the other poster's said, it's all about diet. When I first started Met, I was eating healthy BUT my portions were too big, I wasn't getting enough protein and I was eating too many carbs(they were whole grain but still). Once I started watching portions AND calories, the weight began to come off. I just had my midmorning snack, 1/4 cup raw pistachios= 180 calories. Counting calories has actually become fun for me, like a game I play with myself with the calculator.
I wish you the best in your weight loss endeavors.

Hi All,
I recommend the following:

The Insulin Resistance Diet - How to turn off your body's fat making machine. Cheryle R. Hart MD & Mary Kay Grossmas, RD

You don't need to cut carbs, you just need to be smart about it... check out how to 'balance' and then you'll be in the know. Works for me!
