I have a new email buddy who has been given the runaround for years, with at least 6 doctors, all not treating her PCOS properly. Can any UK Soulcysters help me search for a good PCOS doctor (a GP, or an Endocrinologist) for her, who might prescribe Metformin? She lives in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I was referred to Dr Tay at the New Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. He discussed Metformin with me, but didn't prescribe it as we were trying Clomid alone first. I think he will prescribe it to very overweight women, but as my BMI was 26 (a bit over, but not excessive) he felt it wasn't essential at this point.
I found him very supportive and understanding of PCOS and not at all dismissive of anything. He answered all the questions I asked (many of them before I even asked them!)
Sorry if this is one of the docs she has seen and not liked, but I hope if she can go to him, she aould find him helpful

It allows you to performa a search for consultants in all areas in the UK and also their special interests - I have had a look for reproductive endocrinologists in Scotland, and there were a few in Edinburgh, including Dr Tay. As he comes with a personal recommendation from Deeds, your friend may prefer to go to him, but if she doesn't for whatever reason, there are others to try...

Hi Crayola Girl
Welcome to Soulcysters! I did a search for the post I did after my appointment and surprisingly it's still there, not for much longer I would imagine, but it pretty much desribes how my appointment with Dr Tay went.
My GP wanted to refer me back to him for antenatal care as I had felt so at ease with him, however he doesn't do that, but he wrote a lovely letter congratulating us! I have it in my notes!
I take it you are not yet ttc? Obviously that's why I saw him, but as he is a gynae i would imagine he will see women for all sorts of issues.
Good Luck
Love

Hi,
Yeah, it's been ages since I posted, but i wanted to wait until I had some (kinda) good news....
I GOT A REFERRAL TO DR TAY FROM MY GP!!!!
I wrote a letter to Dr Tay back in December, and I got a reply from him a couple of weeks ago, just saying to take the letter to my GP and make them refer me... so I did! They took blood from me to send with the referral, but hopefully I should hear from the hospital in a few weeks!
*twirls*
Thanks for all your help, especially Deeds for his name!
