We had our home study just last night! I too had stressed about it and have worried myself sick for the past month. It was so easy! She was at our home about an hour. First she had me go into the other room and asked my hubby some questions- I expected it to take awhile and he came and got me for my turn after only 5 minutes. The questions were like- How did you meet your husband, how long did you date, what attracted you to him, what do you remember about your childhood, and how were you punished. Then she asked for a tour of the house. She literally just looked inside each room, didn't go around with a white glove or anything.
She looked to see where our smoke alarms where and just asked about where the fire extinguisher was and first aid supplies. She asked about our cleaning supplies and medicines being out of reach. After that we just talked about the materials she had asked us to read about older child adoption and she left. I'm glad to be able to stop worrying about it- I wish I had known that I was worrying for nothing.
We have two dogs in the house that are normally very hyper. I made sure we held them and wouldn't let them down to jump on her. After awhile they quit squirming and then layed down on a pillow and went to sleep. I couldn't believe it! I prayed about their behavior and it definitely worked.
My biggest concern was that she would question us a lot about our marital counseling we had in the beginning of 2007- that it would make us look bad. She said "I see you had marital counseling- counseling is a great thing. Ask your counselor for a letter that just says you were released." And that was that.
