Never been treated and now Menopause Hello, I'm new to the forum. I looked but didn't find a thread dealing with my issue.
I was diagnosed almost 12 years ago, previous to that, doctors put any issues down to my being obese. However, I have not found a doctor who wants to treat the problem, or help me treat it. I did, about 4 years ago find one, who after one month decided to drop my insurance. Needless to say, I couldn't afford a doctor without insurance.
Currently, I am seeing a NP and attempted to discuss the problem. She prescribed metformin easily and without testing, but refused to prescribe any type of hormone due to my age. I'm 53. Most of the web sites I've come across deal with fertility issues and younger women trying to get pregnant, which is awesome because I tried for 15 years to conceive not knowing what the problem was. However, I'm now past that and stopped menstrating about six months ago.
The NP referred me to an obgyn which I haven't been able to get in to. When I called for an appointment the receptionist asked why I wanted to see the doctor. After repeating PCOS loudly three times, she asked for more detail. She also repeated my name, birthdate and social security number loudly. I asked her to just make the appointment and she refused to make me an appointment until I went into detail with her about my problem. (This is a HIPPA violation and I'm reporting it).
I digress. My main question is: What does a woman post menopause do about PCOS and the symptoms. Yes, they are still there, hair growth, tags, darkening of skin, weight that will NOT come off, lack of energy, etc. |
