Ok, so I have been on Metformin and a low carb diet for about 3 weeks. About 4 days after starting both, I started a cycle, no biggie right, that happens when you start to get things like they should be. Well, it's been 3 weeks and there's no sign of it slowing down. I am sorry, this is really gross, but I am having huge blood clots. What is going on? I took prometrium a month ago and had a regular cycle so I didn't have that much build of of my lining. Have any of you had this problem? Maybe it's the change in diet and medication? I appreciate your advice
Yes, I have had that problem! I bled for almost a month and it was the most scariest time of my life! I had globs and globs of tissue coming out, dark red, just completly unbelievable and it happened because I hadnt had a menstrual cycle in awhile and because I was put on Metformin.
After I had stopped bleeding, I got some tests done, just to make sure nothing else was going on. And thankfully, everything came out just fine.
I just bled so much because I hadnt had a mentrual cycle in a few months.
(TESTS: PAP SMEAR, PELVIC EXAM, TRANSVAGINAL/ABDOMINAL ULTRASOUND, BLOOD TESTS AND AN ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSY.)

Thanks so much. Maybe I just keep on making a ton of the lining, who knows. You're right though, it's GROSS. I guess one good thing is that hubby doesn't bug me for my "wifely duties" LOL
I had this problem for almost 6 months. It was awful. Finally after 2 ultrasounds and tons of tests they did a third ultrasound and found a large uterine fibroid. I had them take it out surgically and haven't had the problem since. Good luck.....I know how awful this is. Every day that it went on I would sit in the bathroom and cry. I hope they can find help quickly for you. Be persistent with your doctor, they will figure out what problem is causing it.

I had my yearly exam two days before starting the meds. Do you know if fibroids can be detected during the pelvic/pap? It's odd that you mention that-I never thought of that, but when I was pg with my daughter, I had a firbroid growing. Hmmm...food for thought.

Yes, it's always good to talk to your doctor. But, I know sometimes it's good to talk to others who may have gone through something similiar as well.

A transvaginal or pelvic ultrasound can help identify the number, size, and shape of fibroids. This test uses sound waves to give doctors an image of your pelvic area. A wand is passed over your abdomen and may be inserted into your vagina.
An endometrial biopsy is performed by taking a tissue sample from the uterus. A small instrument is passed through your cervical opening to “grab” small samples of tissue inside your uterus. It can be performed at your doctor’s office.
A hysteroscopy looks at the uterus by passing a small fiberoptic camera through the opening of the cervix.
Hysterosalpingography involves injection of dye into the uterus and fallopian tubes, which is then x-rayed to identify the anatomy of these structures.
Laparoscopy is a surgical procedure. The surgeon will insert a small fiberoptic camera into your abdomen to look directly at internal organs.

You're probably right, I guess I just never thought something was 'wrong' just that it's annoying as all get out and none of my RL friends have had this problem. Fortunately, my ob goes to the same church as me so if I get a minute tomorrow I may ask him about it, good spirituality, huh!

Excellent! Lucky you! Hehe...
But, here, thought this might help:
Fibroids Symptoms
Most fibroids, even large ones, produce no symptoms. These masses are often found during your regular pelvic examination.
When you do experience symptoms, the most common are these:
Irregular vaginal bleeding or an increase in menstrual bleeding, known as menorrhagia, sometimes with blood clots
Pressure on the bladder, which may cause you to urinate often and feel a sense of urgency to urinate and, rarely, the inability to urinate
Pressure on the rectum, resulting in constipation
Pelvic pressure, “feeling full” in the lower abdomen, lower abdominal pain
Increase in size around your waist and change in abdominal contour (You may need to increase your clothing size but not because of a significant weight gain.)
Infertility, which is defined as an inability to become pregnant after 1 year of attempting to get pregnant
A pelvic mass discovered by your health care provider during a physical examination

WOW that's scary....you just described me-as I have posted before, I have a bladder the size of a pea, I am always constipated, infertility, large abdomen *(the rest of me is pretty normal, just look pg!) Definetly going to talk to doc.
Thanks so much I'll call the doc this next week we played hooky today-actually we're in Oklahoma and we weren't going to try to drive on the flooded roads
Please call the doc, you could have hyperplasia (abnormal build-up of the uterine lining) and in some cases this can put you at risk for a lot of trouble. You might have to have a D&C done to remove the lining (and stop the prolonged period) and then come up with a plan with your doctor to manage the lining.
