I'm new here. I was diagnosed with PCOS a few months ago and after running extra tests my doctor finally put me on met. I've been on it now for almost a week and I have been sick. Can anyone tell me if they got sick and if so for how long? I'm on this to try to have a baby, I know I'm young still (23) but I have been trying for 3 yrs (this is before finding out that I had PCOS) I have 1 daughter who I had when I was 16 and didn't have PCOS. Now that I'm married and am old enough to have another child I fear that I won't be able to. Are there alot of women out there that still get pregnant with PCOS?

I got pregnant the first two times on Clomid back before they really knew the cause of PCOS (babies born in 91 and 93). Since they figured out the insulin resistance thing my husband and I decided to try just met and see if I could get pregnant. We weren't really willing to do the full blown fertility thing again. The met was a wonder drug for us. I got pregnant the first month we tried. That was in 02. In 04 we had our fourth child. That time I was already pregnant when we decided to start trying (we didn't realize I was already pregnant). Then our 5th baby is due in February with no met. I found out I was pregnant right before my appt. to get back on it. That was our first surprise baby in 20 years of marriage.
The first time I went on met (I always go off of it after I get through my first trimester until I stop nursing the baby) I was sick for about 6 weeks. The second time, I used the extended release vs. generic and there was a WORLD of difference. I was up to full dose in 1 1/2 wks. instead of a couple of months and I was never really sick. If you can't handle the generic and can afford the XR, you could call your dr. and see about switching. I ll never go back on the generic if I have a choice.
Thank you for all the replys. I really hope that I can have the same results as you did Karen. I'm going to call my doc today cause she just put me on the full dose (500 mg 3 times daily) so maybe the other would be better. I really hope that I don't have to go on clomid I really don't want to take changes of having twins. My hat goes off to all the women out there that has had more than 1 baby at a time cause I don't know that I could do that. LOL

My dr. had me work up to 2000 mg over 6 wks. or so the first time I went on it. I started at 500 a day and every couple of weeks (when I started not feeling as sick) I would up it another 500/day until I reached 2000. I could have never started on generic met at 1500 day. It's hard to be patient when you're doing it to get pregnant I know. If you can't get the XR then I would talk to the dr. about working up more slowly. It'll be worth the wait. I know at the end of 6 weeks, I was ready to throw in the towel. It was about when I was at the end of my rope that I started feeling better.
