Unhappy New!

I am new here. I have been diagnose with PCOS for a year and a half now. My OB is one of the lose weight and everything is fine. I have been overweight since I was 11. Telling me to lose weight I have heard all my life. Lets try something new. I need a new OB that knows PCOS and doesn't just tell me to lose weight. I need friends. I have been crying all day after my app wth my OB.

I know how you feel. I have had PCOS for over a year now and when I heard thats what I had I was so depressed about it. Your not alone! Theres many of us. For some reason I just had to look on the bright side that I am still here and I can get through this!! It will be hard but you can do it!

It'll be okay. Just take one day at a time.

If you're looking for a new doctor, you can always try this link:Search for PCOS Specialists, using this link! The doctors that I've worked with that I've really liked are ones that combine traditional medicine with alternative. I don't know if that would work for you, but it might be an idea.

Also, I am one of those that was always told that if I just lost some weight it would all improve. I've always been chubby, but in my teens I just 'ballooned' and I'm always hearing the weight comments. I'm actually trying to lose over 100 lbs. right now and it's so hard. Lots of people don't understand just how hard (sometimes it feels impossible) losing weight with PCOS can be.

Just hang in there and do what you can. Good luck with your doctor and/or doctor search!

Thumbs up

Hi I am new to this site and am looking to help my daughter aged 13 who is undergoing tests for PCOS
I came across your message and I think your OB should change her job and/or go and see a psychologist!
I am so sorry you are sad no one should make you feel like that
No one wants to be overweight and it is a hard thing to change
Hormones and weight problems really stink
I am sure you are a lovely person and one day you will be able to help people who are going through what you are going through now
sorry if this is not much help but your OB really does not deserve us to even think about him/her or even write about them forget them and find a support group locally or people on line that will boost your confidence

Hi. I know how you feel I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. Ive been TTC for about a year and 3 months with no luck. My doctor told me to try and lose weight because i also have elevated insulin levels and she felt if i lost weight that my levels will be better. Well, I tried for a month and stayed EXACTLY the same weight. My doctor now refered me to a RE which Im seeing in a couple weeks. My weight has always been an issue with any medical issue that arises with me.. the answer always seems to be "lose weight". I'm 5'7" and about 165 lbs .. to me i dont think that that is bad, but whatever.

Hi, I think that you should certainly find a new doctor. Nobody should be made to feel bad about who they are and what they are going through. Keep your head up and keep looking, eventually you'll come across a great doctor who will take care of you.

Hello- I can totally understand where you are coming from. I went through hearing that from several OB's for about 5 years until I found my current OB who was like, let's get you on some meds, etc. Once I started metformin I noticed that I could actually lose weight when I tried. I don't know if you are insulin resistant or not, but it has made such a difference for me. In the course of upping my dose I lost 60lbs in about 6-7 months. Some OB's are kinda ignorant and they see obesity as the cause of PCOS and not the other way around. You will definitely find friends here and perhaps someone else that is in your area can guide to a good OB. Good luck.

Hi there! I'm new here, too and have had much of the same experience. I went from doctor to doctor because none of them would give me a definitive answer. They would just say to take the birth control and lose weight, completely ignoring me when I told them that even when I was a healthy weight, I still never had periods. I have had a minimum of FIVE pointless pregnancy tests by doctors who did not believe that I had never been regular, nor had I been sexually active.
My current PCP told me that it didn't really matter if I had PCOS or not, if I was trying, I would lose weight. Finally, my gastroenterologist referred me to a gyn that she went to college with and here I am! Answer at last. And no more orders to take birth control despite my requests to avoid it!
So, the moral of the story-- don't be afraid to change doctors until you find one who listens to you and addresses all of your concerns. And don't let the ignorance of some doctors get you down.
