I homeschool my DS age 5 ...leary of someone challenging that during the home study...does that happen?
Also I inquired about an 8 year old boy because I know living in a 2 bedroom apartment it would have to be a boy and since this is domestic I think infants go to childless couples first- as it should be- but do you think I am going too much older?
What should I do to be ready for that first home walk thru and beyond?
thanks,

I'm not sure about the HS question. You could call an adoption agency & ask how they feel about it.
Not only hildless couples get babies, you can request any age but usually adoption out of birth order are frowned upon.
Good Luck!

I doubt that HS would be a problem. People do it all the time. Traci is right though that most agencies and social workers frown upon adopting out of birth order. That being said, I know several families who've done just that and couldn't be happier. If that's what is in your heart, then it can't hurt to ask!

I agree about the adopting out of order. I also wanted to add that I know a few single women online that have adopted a newborn. So it can be done!

I wouldn't think there would be any problem with homeschooling, if your child is well-cared for and educationally on-target.
I have heard stories both ways... that adopting out of birth order can work fine, and that it was horrible. I strongly suspect it depends on the individual children involved.
Also, childless couples DO NOT always get preference for infant placements. I know plenty of people who already have children who have adopted infants. It is generally the birthmother's choice as to who she wants to place her baby with, and many birthmothers want their children to have siblings. So I would NOT assume that, if you want an infant, it is impossible to get one.
I'd suggest calling some adoption agencies and asking for information packets from them. It really helped DH and I decide what we wanted (and maybe more importantly, did NOT want), in an agency.
