Hi everyone! My name is Alicia, I'm 20, a physiotherapy student and I live in Australia.... Well, a bit about me.... I've had a lot of gynecological problems since grade 11.... I had simply convinced myself it was normal and nothing to worry about... After being trialled on every pill on the market, further investigations were done and it showed that my right ovary looks like "Swiss cheese" and my left ovary isn't far behind it... A PCOS presentation. I don't have the other symptoms of PCOS such as the weight, acne, male traits eg voice changes/hairiness etc..... A blood test showed normal androgen lvls but MASSIVE insulin resistance so the doctor cant rule PCOS as a definite yes or no.
I am pretty worried as at the moment I'm not ovulating - the doctor said I will ovulate but not all the time! It's pretty scary as I'm so desperate to have a family. I'm enjoying looking around on this forum and seeing that ppl with PCOS have had kids!
Well thats it about me! I look forward to meeting you all!
Alicia, Welcome to Soul Cysters. You will find the group of ladies here are wonderful and very supportive. I hope that you will be able to get a diagnosis soon. I know that it took me a very long time to get mine.

Lots of babydust as you ttc. What treatment will you be doing for your PCOS? I had good results with metformin, it regulated my periods and I also lost weight on it and was able to conceive. Just a little thought for you in case you want to talk with your doc about it
Hugs

Hi Jenny, to be honest with you, the doctor hasn't given me anything - except i'm back on the pill (first time in 4yrs i havent started bleeding immediately on it)... I guess this is probably cuz he cant give me a definitive diagnosis that i do/don't have PCOS. I had an ultrasound that showed that my right ovary has the PCOS presentation and the left ovary isnt as bad but still shows some PCOS changes. The thing is, my bloodwork came back showing that I am insulin resistant but have normal androgen lvls.... so at this stage, we just have to monitor it I think.... Now that I read that most people are on Metformin or some type of drug for it, i'm getting worried - maybe i should be on something!
Hope everyone doesn't mind me crashing the forum even if i'm not definitely PCOS (mind you, what causes your ovaries to look like that if it isnt PCOS)
Cheers for all the replies - you are all fabulous! I'm lovin it here!!!
Licia,
I'll give this another try (I tried to answer your post awhile ago and it wouldn't post!)
I will tell you quite honestly that for me personally, the pill alone didn't work too well. (Keeping in mind that each of us is unique and no one treatment is right for every cyster). I was on the pill alone before my diagnosis. It did help me to have one period each month, but it was very heavy. When I was diagnosed I was put on met and that is what worked the best for me. On met my periods came once per month AND they were an acceptable flow. (For the first time in years!) Anyway, that's my experience, just thought that maybe something in it would be helpful to you.
About the labs: Aside from being IR, my labs are usually normal. Once again, the met was helpful for my IR. I'm thankful to have a doc who understands how different PCOS can be from cyster to cyster (after encountering several docs who didn't understand that!) I was diagnosed mainly based on symptoms, and I did have labwork that showed IR and an ultrasound that showed polycystic ovaries.
In case you are interested: I take cinnamon capsules, which have helped with my IR symptoms (for me mainly carb cravings!) Also my periods have been very regular since I started cinnamon, and my A1C and cholesterol are within normal range.
Hang in there hun! If you ever want to ask questions or just talk, feel free to PM me or email me. (I've been having trouble with my computer, but I try to check PM and email each day, I'll get back to you as soon as my computer will let me! )
Hugs
Jenny
