My name is Kim. I just found this site/board and thought I would introduce myself.
I was officially diagnosed with PCOS in 2000, but am really a lifetimer when it comes to my symptoms and history. I would venture a guess that I've had PCOS since puberty, irregular cycles from the get-go. I distinctly remember being in 8th grade health class and some boys making fun of my mustache. It was a little rough at that age, that's for sure.
I have fairly traditional symptoms, at least at my diagnosis time. I don't ovulate, never have, no birth control since 1988. I've struggled with my weight all of my adult life, have excessive body/facial hair, etc.
One of the main reasons that I found you all here is that I really need to find a GOOD doctor and find some treatment that works for me. I've really never been treated for the PCOS. I was diagnosed when I was TTC. So, I've been doing some research on treatments, etc. BCP don't work for me. I feel terrible on them, no sex drive, etc. I tried them for six months after I had my daughters and it was awful. I really should've gone back to my doctor and discussed everything, but I wasn't that sold on him being the best one anyway.
Do most of you see a GYN or and ENDO or both? I would imagine that RE's won't see you unless you are TTC.
So, anyway, that's a little bit about me. I'm looking forward to getting to know some fellow cysters and hanging out. Feel free to ask me anything! Thanks for reading!

Welcome to SC! Birth control pills are not a long term solution to PCOS. I refuse BCPs because I fear what they will do to my already messed up hormones. I take Metformin which helps a lot of ladies with their symptoms. My symptoms started around age 8 with weight gain, etc. Check these links:
It seems PCOS is most likely genetic. Many beleive it can be passed on through the mom or dad to either the daugther or son. We are keeping watch over DD to see if she develops any symptoms of PCOS. Our Pedi is very open to research and such. Check this link out: Your child and PCOS, info and support thread
I got to a GYN with endo experience. He has been great. He ran a ton of tests and put me on Metformin and approved my lower carb diet.
