Default New to the board ladies...looking for advice.

Hello Ladies..

I am new here after do alittle research I thought it would be best for me to join the board and talk to those who have alittle knowledge on this for some advice. I have had irregular af's since i was young. I first got my first af at age 9 and they were very painful at that. Well after having my son and nursing it took awhile for af to get back on track but when she did it was normal and i had no cramps whatso ever. I got on bc to keep af regular and to keep from conceiving again. after about 3 years dh and i decided to try and conceive and with no luck we gave up. I went to the dr's and they ran tests and said there was nothing wrong with me. so the next year I had an irreg pap and had to have a colposcopy and my dr suggested i have and hsg so afte reading i was sure we would fall pg after that but with no success its been 3 years now and i still have not conceived and at my last pap my dr said i looked good. Well I am going to the dr's on the 25th after not having af for 78 days. I have for the last 5 years have had hair growth in places i shouldn't like on my upper lip and chin and on the sides of my face. i am noticing more on my belly and it drives me nuts. I find myself trying to hide my face so no one sees these unwated hairs. My question is how do i get my dr to test and diagnose pcos. I believe I have it because about every symptom they list for it I have. Thanks for listening to me vent and i am looking forward to meeting new frineds on this board.

Michelle~

i was just diagnosed a couple of weeks ago and stumbled across this site today. i also have hair above my lip and on my face. went on bc 3 yrs ago, and stopped after 2 yrs. noticed weight gain, irregular af's (sometimes 6 mos apart). didn't go to the doc because i didn't have insurance. i've had dizziness and nausea since i was about 12 when my blood sugar drops.
finally went to the doc a couple mos ago and after several blood tests, i was diagnosed with pcos. didn't know what that was at the time, but i've been doing a lot of research. when i got to this site, i looked at the newbie forum. they have all the tests you need to be diagnosed and questions to ask the doc listed in the info.
i'm just waiting to get on met because my liver enzymes are off and my doc wants to wait until to december to prescribe it and recheck the blood tests.

Welcome to SC!
I would go to dr with information about PCOS (incase s/he doesn't know about it) and a list of all the PCOS symptoms that you have. Ask for a blood work up - you can find a list of the tests on one of the stickies on the Newbies forum.

If your dr (obgyn or reg?) doesn't know much about PCOS or doesn't want to get you tested, or doesn't want to treat you then get a referral to an Reproductive Endrocronologist (sp?).

Another option would be to see a Naturopath or Hoemopathic health provider.

Thank you so much Ladies...I will head over to the newbie board and start making my list today. The ob I am seeing on the 25th is a great dr...it was my primary care provider who was so not there would just tell me to lose weight to regulate my cycles. but I am thinking there is something causeing me to not be able to lose the weight and causing all the other symptoms i am having. So once again thank you so much for your advice and after the 25th I will come back and let you all know what the prognosis is.

Michelle
