I'm new to the board and just wanted to say Hi!!!
I'm 40 mom to two teen girls 17 and 19 married to my hubby for 20 yrs. We've been trying to conceive our third for two years (yeah we're a little crazy to start again) Last month I went to see a new doctor to see if there were any obvious things keeping us from conceiving and he was pretty sure about insulin resistance. I did a 2hr insulin/glucose tolerance test and my glucose was good but the insulin was very high. My doctor has started me on 500mg of Met XR and wants me to work up to 1500mg. I don't really have an official PCOS diagnosis yet unless having infertility and insulin resistance being 40-50lbs overweight all in the middle and still having some acne at 40 really is the diagnosis. I do have fairly regular cycles (although heavy, painful, and sometimes 5-6 weeks apart) although from my charts my new doctor commented that I generally ovulate late. Anyways I also working on diet (IR) and trying to get some exercise too. I'm happy actually to have a diagnosis because I've probably had this well for a long time. This new doctor really thought my two 10lb babies back in the late 80's were a sign of IR even though I was not gestional diabetic all those years ago. It's amazing to actually have a doctor seem to care and not just put you on the pill and say it's normal.
