I'm new here and confused whether I have PCOS or not.
Ok, where to start....
I have irregular cycles, always have, typically 6, 7, weeks or longer. My husband and I conceived quicky late last year right after I stopped BCP's, but sadly I miscarried in the first trimester (Jan '05). Now my cycles are as irregular as always. I was beginning to suspect that I might have PCOS, and also just learned that my sister was recently diagnosed with PCOS, which naturally increased my suspicions that I have it too. (Shall have to tell my sister to check out all wonderfully helpful the information on this site!!!)
So off I go to the Ob/Gyn, who says she suspects I am not ovulating regularly and orders tests for LH, Progesterone, TSH and prolactin. Well, the nurse phoned yesterday to say the the test results had come back, and the doctor had declared I am indeed not ovulating. They gave me a prescription for Clomid, with instructions to take it days 5-9 next cycle, and to get my progesterone checked again on day 23 to test for ovulation.
So now I am confused.....do I have PCOS or not???
Maybe the tests were just done too early in my cycle and I'll ovulate later.....
I'm tracking my cycles for the first time....it is now day 34 and my BBT shows I have not ovulated yet.....
Besides the irregular cycles, I don't have other PCOS symptoms, well, some chin/neck hairs that I am constantly plucking out, but not enough to make me think something is drastically wrong. (My sister, though, has VERY irregular cycles, cysts, and struggles with weight.)
I am anxious to get pregnant again, in fact I'm becomming obsessive about it!!! I must be driving my husband nuts, though he has been very good through this whole process.
But I'm confused .... do I really have PCOS or not? And do I really need the Clomid or not? I have no problem taking the Clomid if I do indeed need help to ovulate, but is it possible the Clomid could do more harm than good if I don't really need it???
Hi Welcome to Sc. Glad you are here. I would go to the doctor and say you might think you have it, what symptoms you have ect. IF you need to chat with me i am on aol instant messenger leecathy4.

If you are not ovulating and would like to get pregnant, you may need a little help from a drug like Clomid. I have never heard of it hurting anyone -- just making them a little crabby and hot flashy.
I took Clomid every other month.... it seemed to help regulate me in the off months.
Ask the Dr to explain to you why he believes you are not ovulating, and have him run a few blood tests and/or an u/s to see if he can diagnoes you fornally.
Good luck, and welcome!

I did tell the ob/gyn I was wondering if I have PCOS....but she basically concentrated on whether on not I am ovulating. (Which I guess IS my main concern at the moment considering I'm TTC.)
Her logic seems to be: long cycles, probably not ovulating regularly, let's start clomid. I just can't help wondering if she has really done enough diagnosis....
In the past I have asked doctors about having long cycles, and I have been told there is nothing to worry about. But from what I have been reading recently, it seems that's not necessarily the case.
Welcome to SC first of all! Have you considered going to see a reproductive endocrinologist? They could certainly give you answers as to whether you do indded have PCOS or not and what your best options are. Good luck! We are here whenever you need us!

I was going to suggest an RE also. Mine was great and I knew I was not a freak when I saw him. Other docs looked at me like I was crazy bc my blood tests came back fine. However, when you look at my ovaries you can see that I have PCOS. Also I complained about pain during sex and it turned out that my tube had attache to my ovary so I had surgery to separate it.
