Hello everyone, my name is Kat. I am 27 years old. I have been married for 2 years to my high school sweet heart. Due to absent of my period I went to see my family doctor about half month ago. I did some blood work and ultrasound.
Results came back yesterday. My blood work seems to be fine. At lease that's what the doctor told me. All my hormones are at regular level. But ultrasound reveal many cysts. She didn't tell me about their sizes or numbers. I was in such a shock I didn't ask the question. Since I do not have any other syndromes of PCOS, such as over weight, sudden weight gain, acne, excess hair or skin tags, she couldn't say for sure I have PCOS. She simply said she would refer me to a gynaecologist. When I asked if PCOS would cause any other diseases in other parts of my body, she assured me it wouldn't. She said it would only affect fertility.
After I came back from the doctor's office, I did some reseach. Now I have a very very vague picture of PCOS. I am very scared and confused. Do I really have PCOS? If I do, does that mean it would be very hard for me to have baby?
My husband is very supportive, he told me last night no matter what happen he would stand by me.
I don't know what to do right now. Please help me.

First of all, HUGS!!! Hopefully you can get a good doctor to give you a dx. You may even want to see a reproductive endocrinologist or even a regualr endocrinologist, too. Sometimes regular gynecologists don'y have a clue, either.
As for PCOS only causing fertility problems and nothing else, I want to smack that lady! There is a host of other health problems related to PCOS. Not to scare you, but that doc is a moron. Seems to be quite a bit of that going around.
Diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, the list goes on. PCOS doesn't cause these, but it puts us for a higher risk of getting them.
A good site to check is www.pcos.itgo.com
They have a lot of info, and lab results numbers, too.
"It's important to know that many PCOSers come back on their tests "within normal ranges". It takes a true PCOS professional to see through those tests and make/rule out the diagnosis of PCOS." - from pcos.itgo.com
Good Luck to you!!!

I'm sorry you're going through all of this. I understand, it's all very confusing especially when you don't have solid answers. Hopefully an obgyn can help you. I know mine has been very supportive. She is the one who suggested I have pcos, now I'm waiting for results. From what I have learned on this board a lot of pcos women have children, so don't get discouraged about that. It is wonderful that your husband is so supportive. Best wishes to you.

I think I am going through the same thing as you are right now, except my bloodwork apparantly has some high hormone levels or something. I am still very new to this so it will be hard for me to really give advice, but I can say that I understand how confusing it must be at the moment.
If you read my post in this forum, you can read my story so far. Hello! New here...
In my situation, my doctor told me that there are medications that can help you to get pregnant such as Clomid or Metformin. I will be finding out more information next month.
That's great that you have such a supportive husband. Mine is the same and it really helps a lot! Take care and good luck!
Hi Kat,
Welcome to soulcysters glad you found us! My name is Mel. I am relatively new here also having been diagnosed about 2 months ago. As far as i understand, pcos does make it difficult to concieve due to ireggular periods and ovulation, but medication helps to sort this out. There is alot of successful ladies on this site as you will find from reading through the posts. I dont want to scare or upset you, but pcos sufferers are at higher risk of diabetes, heart disease and i think cancer of the uterus (could be wrong with that last one). Now dont get too upset because all of this can be prevented i think, from taking the meds and doing special diets and excercise. This is what i know anyway.
It is all very scary when you first find out and it may knock you around a fair bit. Myself, I was really up and down emotionally for quite a few weeks untill i realised that with the meds and a positive outlook, its really not the end of the world. Even though some days i feel like it is, and we all will from time to time feel this way.
This site has helped me learn sooo much about pcos, and not only that it is so encouraging to be able to ask ANYTHING and get answers, and to just be able to vent. Its also good to read other peoples success stories, it makes you realise that having a baby isnt impossible and neither is losing weight, just a little harder than for most people.
Anyway just wanted to offer my support and encouragement and wish you the best of luck. PM me anytime if u want a buddy im around your age and enjoy meeting people.
Mel
