Hey gals!!! My name is Alisha Arwood....I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries 2 months ago. My husband and I have been trying for a baby a little over a year and after several doctors, I finally found a doc that was interested in helping me figure out what was going on with me. My new doctor put me on metformin and yaz. I am to take the yaz for three months to straighten my system out and then after the 3 months, she is going to give me medicine to help me ovulate and see if that is successful. I'm now trying to get used to the metformin. The side effects are getting better, but there are some days that its aggravating. However, I just try to keep my head up and think that its for something me and husband desperately want...a child of our own. After December, I should be off the yaz and on the medicine to help ovulation, so we're praying that the medicine works. I can't stand the thought of me not being able to be a mother....just cant bare that thought. So just pray for me and just hope that all of this has a happy ending. Its great to be on here and I look forward to hearing everyone's stories and meeting new ppl. God Bless!!!!
hi. and welcome! i am a bit new on here, and dont get on here much but ive got the website figured out. it might take a little bit. my name is Amanda and I was diagnosed with PCOS this past August. I knew something was wrong with me too but i had to go to 3 different doctors to find a doc that would do something for me. I am on Metformin and have been on it for a month. I am up to 3 pills a day and just last week the symptoms i get from Metformin started changing. My husband and I have been married for just over a year and are hoping for a baby hopefully within this upcoming year we can get pregnant. my husband and I have been trying for a baby for 2 years and i finally went to the doctor to see what was up. This is a great website with lots of help and advice and friends to make. God Bless you and your husband!!
Nice to meet you!!!!! How long did it take for you to move up your dosage of metformin. I'm a little sketchy about moving up dosages because i'm just now getting to where the side effects arent awful, theyre tolerable at times....so thats why i'm kind of wondering how long ppl wait before they moved up.
I am new as well. Me and DH have been TTC for 2 years with no luck. I have a prolactinoma which is a benign tumor on the pituitary gland that is secreting to much prolactin and causing no periods and no "O". I have not been diagnosed with PCOS yet I started a new job and need to wait for my insurance to kick in before I go to the doc. I do have many of the symptoms of PCOS and I feel as if I have it. I have the facial hair, weight gain, pain in my right side where ovaries are etc. I have found a lot of info on this site and I am hoping for a BFP soon!!!
hey alisha!! i was on 1 pill for a week, then went up to 2 pills for 2 weeks and now im at 3 pills. i get some side affects from it too. Somedays i wont eat supper for 1-3 nights, and alot of foods make me sick to my stomach so i end up eat something that i wasnt planning on eating in the first place. so thats all that i really have except that for last week i started getting the diahhrea which is a side affect too and its not bad, it could be worse, but i definetly dont like having it. and since the first time since i was 14, i got my once-a-month cycle right on time, at 28 days between last month and this month. so im really excited about that , that the medicine is starting to do something that i noticed.
hope this helped you. how many pills are you taking now?? when did you start?? where are you from??
i am from wisconsin.
right now i am on one pill (500 mg)....i have a doc appt on the 12th so i guess we'll see what she says and go from there. I started on October 19th and have been taking one with supper every night since.
Thanks to all the warm welcomes from everyone....its really an inspiration to read everyone's stories and to know there are ppl out there that are going through similar situations that i am going through.
Mizgee: I know the feeling about insurance. We had to wait for my husband to get insurance and thank God he got insurance about 2 weeks before my appointment and if it wasnt for that i wouldnt be able to go. I got a printout of the charges for the tests that was run on me......1300.00 and that was for a blood test and ultrasound. The blood test in itself was a little over 700.00...i about had a heart attack but was so blessed to have insurance. Its very hard on ppl who arent able to go because of that and its very unfortunate....how long do you think itll be before u get insurance????
Prayn4miracle: I gradually went up on my dosage; I started with one pill with breakfast and after I started feeling better from the side effects, I started taking another pill (12 hours apart from each other). While getting my system used to the pills I ate a lot of yogurt with them to settle my stomach. Luckily my system is fine with only taking 1000mg instead of the usual 1500mg.

Prayn4miracle: I have to wait until Jan/08 until benefits kick in at the new job. So right now I am on bromocriptine for my prolactinoma (benign tomor on the pituitary gland that elevates prolactin) and this drug is supposed to lower my prolactin levels and promote "O" but I have to wait for my doc appt to get dx for PCOS. It is a bummer having to wait because I am anxious and want to start treatment right away so that I can hopefully start a family. Do you or anyone else feel sharp pains between the leg and abdomen? Like right where the hip is but closer to pelvis area. This pain is very sharp and brings me to my knees then it will go away after about 2-3 min and will happen again later. It is so strange. I read on here that it could be a cyst bursting but I just wanted to know if anyone else feels this type of pain.
