Post New Cyster :)...but need some advice

Hi all,

First off, i'm so glad I found this site!
I'm 22, and was diagnosed with PCOS about 5 years ago. I went through a very long non-compliant/denial stage through college. Now my symptoms are really really bad. I have excessive facial hair growth (shave every day extending to my neck, and if not, have a REAL beard the next morning). I have hair on my body too...chest, abdomen, thighs, i'm a gorilla! I've lost 45-50% of my head hair, if not more, and see male balding patterns. I am overweight and can't seem to lose weight, insulin resistant, and have the actual ovarian cysts. Most worrisome, is that I'm constantly in a depressed mood, low self-esteem, and uncomfortable in social settings, and have seen my personality make a complete switch from being very social and outgoing, to an anti-social fruitcake .

I recently saw a doctor, and am now on 200mg Spiro, 500mg/day right now on Met, but will gradually increase to 2000mg/day by the end of the month, and I just switched from Ortho Tricyclen bcp to Yasmin. I know it's going to take time, but I hope these symptoms will fade. I'm watching my diet and go to the gym 5 days/week. I am extremely motivated now, and I hope things will get better for me. This is all starting right now, and I want to get on a good schedule and routine for my meds, and I was wondering if I should start on any vitamins. I currently take none. I asked my doctor, and all he mentioned was iron, but from reading posts, I've read that Evening primrose, folic acid, saw palmetto, and a nail, hair vitamin are recommended. Are these safe to take with my meds right now? Am I overdoing it with the meds? Also, i need to take something for the hair loss...has anyone tried the Nioxin diet supplement vitamins? Any other advice?

Thanks very much!
Sorry bout the long post

Welcome to SC! As for your question of vitamins, I just take Centrum or One-A-Day (whichever is on sale at the time I need them) and 500 mg. calcium. I hope somebody can answer your questions about the other stuff.
