Smile New Cyster from WA...feeling a bit scared about all this

Hey everyone! I'm Sara from Perth. I'm 20 and was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18 (when I went to my GP complaining about getting my period every 14 days and bad acne) but my GP who diagnosed me didn't tell me much about it and I've only been researching it in the last month and just finding out a lot of things about it so I'm feeling a bit scared at the moment. My GP put me on the pill, but two weeks ago I decided to stop taking it because from what I've read and heard (and been told by another GP), it's not a good idea to be on the pill long-term. I have a pretty big appetite and get hungry a lot but I'm really small and underweight. I've decided to try eating healthier and a lower-carb diet to see if it reduces my symptoms...worth a try I guess. I'm terrified the acne will come back though.

Just curious to hear about your experiences with PCOS...has it affected your life dramatically? Should I be really worried? Any tips or comments at all would help. And also was just wondering what all the abbreviations I've been seeing on here stand for...

Sorry if that sounded a little dreary and depressing...I'm just really scared and feeling sort of alone...my friends kind of just look at me weird when I try to explain why I'm not gorging on pasta and cheeseburgers like I used to do.

Hi Sara,
Im allie, I'm 19 and from Melbourne!
It's an awful time when you are first diagnosed!
I was diagnosed at 14.
Best advice is to find a really good gyno!
Symptoms vary with PCOS so much its unbelieveable!!
I have terrible periods, sugar cravings (eat like its going out of fasion), although i am normal weight. I used to have terrible acne but was put on tablets called tetrex (maybe ask your gp?) and after 6months it was all gone and although i get the odd one now they are 99% gone!
So just thought i'd drop a line and say hi!
Allie

Hi Allie Thanks for replying. Yeah I'm seeing a different GP next week and hoping he'll be able to help me better. Sugar cravings sound familiar bahahah...I'm CONSTANTLY hungry (quite literally!) and I'm only 38kg Is Tetrex sort of like antibiotics for the acne or is it a hormone pill? Do you have to take it all the time or was it only for a period of time?
