Hey, I'm a 29 year old who was DX with PCOS in 2004. The GYN I was seeing gave me Metformin. At first it worked, but then quit working. I haven't taken it in 2years. My periods were MIA up until 3 months ago. I began having regular periods in Aug, Sept, Oct, and then in Nov, it was late. I got my period late Nov. and have had it until the present time. It's not like a regular period, it is like a period before it ends. The flow is not heavy. Sometimes it doesn't even get on my pad, it is just there when I wipe. I am so confused. Is this part of PCOS too? I know I need to go back to the GYN, but I am not going back to the one I saw previously. I know this sounds strange, but I am still a virgin and have never had a pap, and am fairly nervous about the whole thing. Can anyone help reassure me on this. Thanks
I was also diagnosed when I was still a virgin. I had to go through the pap smears and vaginal ultrasounds back then and it wasn't that bad. It was awkward and uncomfortable, but it didn't hurt or anything like that. Just try to keep yourself calm, and honestly, just take your head somewhere else; count the lines on the ceiling, make pictures from texture on the walls, anything you can really concentrate on. It always helps me.
hey there -
i am also new to the soulcysters, but not new to the complications of PCOS. i think you'll find what i already have - that just clicking around this site, reading others' posts and feeling the support of other PCOS'ers will help you get through the really uncomfortable parts of having PCOS.
just keep in mind, we're all with you in spirit, and even though your visit to the GYN may not be fun, it's a a neccessary step to getting well!
hello and welcome
dont worry , i was diagnosed with PCOS when i was virgin too
u dont have to go to vaginal untrasound ! abdominal ultrasound helps !
all u need since ur not married is to be on birthcontrol pills to regulate ur period , once u get married there are other things u can do
i advise u to go to ur gyno ,
good luck
Hessa
I was diagnosed with PCOS back in 2002. Your menstrual cycles sound like what mine were like prior to being on birth control pills. When you go to the gyn make sure to tell them you are a virgin, they will treat you with that in mind. The only way I have been able to control my cycles has been with birth control pills. Early in 2009 I plan to see my OB/GYN because my hubby and I want to TTC.
Trust me that it will be ok, sometimes frustrating but it will be ok. Make sure to find a good doctor that understands PCOS. It took a lot of differet doctor's visits....it is also important to find a doctor who keeps him/herself up to date on PCOS.
So, I went to the GYN and she did the pap. I lived through it, but she wants me to come back in three weeks and have a Vaginal Ultrasound and wants to do a biopsy of the lining of my uterus to make sure there isn't anything more there. I am scared too death. I hope there isn't anything more than the PCOS wrong with me.
